    RAPTOR vs. ECLIPSE

Ok i've had a long debate on which is which, i've been told a RAPTOR can be non red eyed but have snake eyed (2 colors in the eyes) everythign i've read is snake eyes are 50/50 i have a female who's about 5/8 black but the last bit is gold, is this considered snake eyed, if so then would it be RAPTOR or just eclipse, also if it's just solid black eyes it's eclipse right? no way to have a black eyed raptor? i've been trying to get these id'd and i'm always going back and forth between aptor, raptor, and eclipse lol.

I have no clue as I don't know a lick about Leos. But this is really interesting!

    Goodluck on finding out!

I thought the R in RAPTOR was "red-eyed", and assumed all RAPTORS must have red eyes.. I'm no leo expert though.

trust me i've been flamed many times for that same thing, funny thing is the acronym doesn't stand anymore lol, most raptors aren't patternless either, i'm almost 100% sure it's gotta be snake eyes or red eyes, to be raptor, anything else is either aptor or eclipse, but just trying to make sure and make sure that snake eyes can be < 50 %.

I think the answer you are looking for is yes about it can be under 50%:
    http://www.leopardgeckowiki.com/wiki...tle=Snake_Eyes

What I was told on leopardgeckofourms is a RAPTOR is just a Tremper Albino, patternless, eclipse (shouldn't say "just a" as I like them a lot but you know what I mean). The Red-eye Albino Patternless Tremper ORange acronym confused me when I started out. Cool name but doesn't really fit.

It is a RAPTOR if the eyes are red. The eclipse gene in the RAPTORS makes their eyes red because the RAPTOR is tremper albino. Ir it does not have the eclipse it is a APTOR.

The eclipse gene itself makes black eyes. It turns albino eyes red or ruby.

I am just getting into leo's and learning myself so if I am wrong someone correct me.

well both of mine are eclipse, both have solid black eyes, except the 1 female has about 5/8 of the eye is solid black the back is gold, so i'm guessing snake eyes on her which is part of the raptor line, so i'm guessing snake eyed raptor, and eclipse but not 100% sure hehe, doens't matter they all produce raptors anyway cause eclipse is part of the raptor gene, ust eclipse gets black not the red or snake, from what i gather just would like some final input on my poor girls hehe. they're not APTOR, because they have either all black or partially black eyes so i know it's between if that one with just a little bit at the back of the eyes is snake, i'd know it's a raptor snake eyed, and the other i'd settle with pure black eyed ecipse.

Do you have pics? Did you ask this question on geckoforums.net? Are these babies you hatched out or adults? Just curious

yah i asked and i'm tired of being flamed over there from what i've read, raptor is either red, or snake eyes, eclipse is pure black eyes, and aptor is something that's got normal eyes, that's what i'm guessing so far. the eclipse gene is part of the raptor gene anyway and most eclpses will have red and black eyed babies or snake eyes etc..

If you had some pics that would help... the raptor has eclipse in it. If its 5/8 black and the rest gold it is not a raptor as it would be red and gold. Wouldnt even be an albino. Raptors eyes are either fully red or 'half' red 'half' gold. It might be a het raptor of some sort. But again... please post a pic and it could help. feel free to email me one if you cant post them on here... raging.reptiles@hotmail.com
