    Re: Laying on day 25?

they will lay when they are ready to , the amount of days you normally hear about are basically guidelines , but when any snake is ready to lay the eggs they will , they dont care how many days its been ..

i had a clutch that hatched 2 weeks early and they were incubated at normal range temps for that kind of snake ..

and then 1 of the babies shed within 1 week of coming out of the shell and normally its about a 2 week process ..

so when nature says they ready to do something , its gonna happen wether its by our guidelines or not ..
I love it when people tell me, "You should think before you speak!" I'm like, "I did. It's what I think and I really don't give a crap what other people think."

Yep... Guidelines-but it is good to know when! I have misjudged many times!

Females can lay on day 20. It is no big deal.

    Re: Laying on day 25?

Just a little something to remember. The process generally takes about 105 days from start to finish. Boa people know that a litter will come about 105 days after ovulation. I know they have live babies, and Balls have eggs. However, it is pretty accepted rules of thumb that a Ball will shed 14 days after ovulation, lay eggs 30 days after shedding, and the eggs hatch 60 days of incubation. 14+30+90=104. With that said, I will relay my next story. I have a female that lays 21 days after POS every year. However, she takes about 21 days to shed after ovulation. So, at the end of the day, it is still approximately 44 days after ovulation that the eggs are laid.

The developmental stages pretty much take the same amount of time no matter what (although temperature can play a role in the speed of development, and can alter the amount of time by plus/minus 5 days). The "outward" signs, shedding, laying and hatching will still generally all add up at the end of the day. In my mind, this is why it is so important to try and keep track of all dates. If she laid 22 days after POS, go back and see how many days it was from ovulation to shed. Just my theory on what might be going on.

I hope that wasn't too confusing,

    Re: Laying on day 25?

    Sorry,
My edit function was already disabled before I could correct it. The above equation should read 14+30+60=104.

    Sorry for the confusion.

I edited your quote to fix the equation.

I wonder if anyone were to keep track, if eggs that are laid a little early tend to hatch a little late based on their lay date, but on time based on the ovulation date. And vice versa of course. It would make sense based on what you have said here.

Thanks for an interesting post. I'm not sure it ever would have occurred to me to add up the days and realize it comes to the same total as boas.
