    Re: :( help.. escape

    no luck so far

what am I going to do? I'm so damn upset right now. It's not like there's a lot of places to look, it's only a 2 br apartment and fairly open for the most part.

Put down some bowls of water and put tape around the room, just make sure the tape isnt extremely sticky just enough that it will stick to them and you will hear it and find them.

    Tape is a bad idea.

I've been very proud of the fact that in four years of keeping snakes, I've never had an escape.....until today. I was talking to Ed (Freakie_frog) and looked over to the hatchling rack and went...ummmmm....I'm missing a snake, let me go!

I started looking in all the shoes right by the rack, was starting to stand back up and decide where to look when something shoots out from under a remote control car right beside the rack at my face - yup, the escapee striking at me.

I'm very lucky, I found him in under 2 minutes. Keep looking near the enclosure and tight warm places.

Well mostly they hide where something generates heat so try looking for it behind your Frige, microwaves, or it can be hiding somewhere were it feels secure even tough if it might be chilly in there.....So try looking for it in shoe boxes in a shoe, ETC....there's billions of places were it can hide....If this doesnt work then just think like a snake....

Do you have a temp gun? My spider got out two days ago. I took my temp gun and looked for the hottest spots in my room. I mean make sure that temp gun hits every foot of your room. Chances she is still in there. The warmest spots in my room was behind the rack, behind TV where all the wires are, under my desk and under my bed and at the head of my bed right up against the wall. And guess what, he was right there at the head of my bed on the carpet squeezed in between the bed and wall. I would just suggest using a bear trap( haha yea right, almost as bad as the tape idea huh ) sorry I had too. But al seriousness I would set a tub that she can get in with a hide and a heat pad. also put a dead mouse/rat in there over the heat pad( it will help distribute the smell a lil better. I'm sure she will smell it and also since the heat from the uth and once she gets in the tub she most likly wont go back out because I'm sure she already knows that the tub with the UTH is about the best source of heat and security around your house. Let us know when you find her. I know you will!!!!!

Any type of adhesive is extremely dangerous to a snake. Even the least sticky types of tape will potentially rip of scales or skin. It has a unfortunate way of sticking to scales extremely well.
I got a bit of tape on one of my balls once, thought taping the thermometer would be fine. Dumb idea, it got stuck to him and I spent an hour with warm water slowly getting the adhesive off without ripping off his scales.

To the OP, they like wires. They generate heat and are somewhat cozy to wrap around in. Check in all drawers, couch cousins (be careful not to sit on him!), bed mattresses, heaters, but mostly the areas around the cage. If he's an 08, he's probably small enough to get just about anywhere.

He will show up, they always do. At least.. pythons do.

    Re: :( help.. escape

the worst part of trying to find her is that I don't know EXACTLY how she escaped, I can only assume my pet sitter left the cage open, and I don't know exactly how long she's been missing.

I keep thinking "what if someone broke into my apartment and stole her, and somehow locked the door again?" or ridiculous things like that

not trying to make assumptions just trying to give an opinion. Do you think your pet sitter may have taken her. Your ball will show up eventually but I really dont think anyone would brake in and take just a snake. They would take other things too. Dont worry she will show up eventually. It may not be today tomarrow or even this month. But believe me you'll get her back. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you
