I wonder, though, if there is a relationship between being albino and deformed vs just a random occurrence of deformity which happens with all balls?

Excellent question, and one I have often pondered. I have hatched close to 500 Ball Pythons since I started in this craziness, and that is the only severe deformity that I have had go full term, and actually stay alive long enough to attempt emerging from the egg. As I stated, the same breeding 2 years after that animal, produced 3 Albinos with 0 deformities.
