Most of the mite treatments only kill the live mites, but not the eggs. That is why they keep coming back.

PAM (provent-a-mite) seems to be the best mite remedy there is. I don't remember for sure if it actually kills the eggs, or if it is just that it leaves a residue that kills them as soon as they hatch. Either way, it gets rid of the mites for good with one treatment. You will probably have to order it online.

ok. well i did hear some where that putting his hides and substrate in the freezer for a little while will kill the eggs... is this true..... we always put his new substrate in the freezer before we actually put it in the cage.... of course we let it warm up first. lol

Snakes mites have a 30 day life cycle so if you don't get all the adults and every single egg....guess whose coming back to see you next month.

Get some Provent-A-Mite, the stuff most pet stores sell is pretty much a waste of your time and cash. (link was given to you in a Rich aka Spaniard's response this thread).

Mites are no joke. They are beyond irritating, not nice to deal with and are believed to be a vector for disease transmission. Best to get them knocked down and out completely. Remember Provent-A-Mite does NOT get sprayed directly on the snake. Read and follow the directions on the can to the letter.

If you bake the hides in the oven on 450 for about 30 minutes it'll kill anything in or on it.

Jo beat me to it again. The point I was going to make is that you keep seeing mites about every "month" as you puy it. This is due to the life cycle that Jo explained. Mites are very similar to lice (if you have ever had those). It is paramount that you kill all of the eggs if ou ever want to rid yourself of mites. You cannot be too cautious when setting up your mite extermination plan.
