I tell myself all the time that I really don't want the responsibility of owning hots.. But then I see something like this!

It's not fair that they are so damn amazing.

Anyone have a rough guess as to what a vial of anti would cost? I'm sure IF you can get it, it will vary.

    Re: The new arival

David, Crofab (for all pit vipers in the U.S.) costs around $2K a vial. And one vial is not enough... I heard of one instance where the bill for a helicopter flight and two hospitals was $330K.

@ Bobby, if you ever decide to go into herps, don't count on being bitten. A responsible keeper should get lots of teaching by a mentor that keeps hots and you should never give any hot a chance to bit you.

Is this a general USA statement or will insurance make exceptions if it's how you make money (legally, and known)?

Let's say (hypothetically) I'm an insurance rep and Joe-Smho gets bit by his pretty pit viper. I wouldn't cover it. That's like a guy going the wrong way down the road with no light on.

BUT if my client was an expert on venom and milked for scientific reasons and the production of anti venom I would have to pay for it.

I'm certainly not "in the know" on this one, but I would imagine there are very specific riders you can purchase wtih your insurance that would cover that. You can insure just about anything...for a price. My guess is that yes, such insurance does exist...but it would need to be prearranged with your insurance company with very explicit parameters...and probably costs a rather hefty fee on top of what you would normally pay.

in florida if you have a permit to keep HOTs and you get tagged by one of your HOTs they won't cover it.
