chicken broth?

Okay I stopped by one of the pet stores close to me and ordered frozen rat pups (none of them stock em!). when they asked me what I needed them for I explained about Goliath and how he is on a hunger strike. Both the owner's wife and one of the workers suggested soaking the snake in chicken broth to help stimulate his appetite. Plus by soaking even if he doesn't want to eat yet, he'll absorb nutrients from the broth by soaking in it. Uhm... what?!

I thought it was soaking the f/t food item in chicken broth to help get things going?! somebody please explain this to me. thanx.

I've heard of dipping the F/T items, but I wouldn't put it passed a not to savvy pet shop to get it confused with soaking the snake in it. A friend of mine tried this with her one bp and it worked great....only problem was that it wouldn't eat anything but the broth soaked rodent afterwords.

well if it would get him started eating again, I'll try it.. I didn't think it was soaking the snake in chicken broth. go figure.

Sure you soak him for 2hrs then bake at 400 for 25 minutes .Sorry Doris i could not resist it .Its soak the rodent for a minute.I have heard of it but never tried it so no guarentee it will work.

If this is an accepted way to get a snake eating I've totally missed that one! LOL I have heard of dipping an f/t rodent in chicken broth, though I've never tried it myself but soaking the snake itself in broth.....

I've learned to smile politely and move away quickly from most of those sorts of pet store instant experts. Unless I'm pretty sure it's an employee with real experience or I'm in a specialty reptile store, I tend to not take their advice.

Now thats just plain weird. I suppose that it might actually have some benefit because the snake would take in some calories instead of soaking in plain water. This is the reason that some people advocate soaking badly dehydrated snakes in pedialite or gatoraid, giving them some electrolytes and calories to hopefully give them enough strength to start feeding and drinking on their own again.

Now, I've heard of soaking the rat in chicken broth for scenting purposes, but balls are not known for being big bird eaters and I doubt that it would be very beneficial. This is more for burms or arboreals that are noted for feeding on birds in the wild.

Ah now THAT is funny! I guess you could try it... Just be sure your significant other or future dinner guests don't see it. They might not be too pleased with the idea of being served out of the same pot the snake a broth were in
