which is better for a ball python: tanks or tubs?

I had a lot of problems with mine when they were in tanks. They didn't eat and hade some shedding problems sometimes. All of that stopped once I got a rack and sold all the tanks.

I'd have to agree with Mikkla, I think the tub is better for several reasons. A tub holds humidity better, the snake is usually less stressed because it is not as easy for him to see the activity around him, and if you do as I do and paint three of the four outside sides of a single tub with dark plastic paint, the whole tub becomes a nice dark hide.

Once most breeders/hobbists acquire more than a few ball pythons, a rack with tubs is so much easier for the individual to manage.

I agree with the other posts it just seems glass fish aquariums don't hold heat or humidity very well unless tweeked just right. Not to mention the animal is nearly always exposed which can be stressful especially for a Bp. Also not very space efficient either. Tubs all the way for me.

once anyone keeps more than 20 snakes. you soon realize that tanks suck as in one bed room you can keep 20 tanks or about 100 tubs.

Though I use a tank, I'd have to say from what I've heard from others, using a tub maybe easiest to use. With a tank, it is possible to provide a correct temp gradient, humidity, and security. It takes work, but it's possible. I can understand with breeders or hobbiest that have more than 1 snakes will want to use tubs, they take up less space and require little or no tweaking.

If your intersted in getting a tank, you'll need to do some tweaking. I use lights on dimmers and it sucks the humidity out of the tank. So I had to buy bed a beast and put that in there. Misting twice a day, the humidity is perfect. I like being able to see my bp cruise around when he's out.

So it's up to you what you want to use. Best of luck!

When I had just one or two I started off with tanks and and AP cages.

Having a rack and tubs has made husbandry light years better from an efficiency standpoint. In addition, I've found that it's been much easier for me to manage humidity levels.

Bottom line, I'm sold on tubs and they will be my enclosures of choice for a long time to come.

They save space, time, and are much easier on you and the snakes.

It really depends. If you're 100% concerned for the well being of your snake, a tub is the way to go. However, if you want to be able to observe your snake when they cruise about at night, a tank would be better. Tanks are good for display, but tubs are more fore breeders and/or people who have multiple snakes.
