Quick Q
Hey all!
So, I got my ball python yesterday, and she's doing great!! Really excited to have her.<3
I have a question about her hot spot. Inside her hide it's 90-91 degrees, but only in her hide and nowhere else. Should the whole left side(the side her hide is in) be 90 degrees or is it fine to be only 90 degrees in her hide?
Thanks,
Annie

are you measuring the floor underneath the substrate, or the substrate itself? always measure the absolute BOTTOM of the enclosure beneath the substrate.
your 90° F hot spot is exactly that: a spot. the entire warm side does not need to reach 90° F.

Okay, that makes me feel way better, I was really worried.
I'm using a temperature gun and reading the temperature directly on the glass above where I placed her hide.

Sounds good !
I wish everyone would also use temp guns given they can be bought for about 7 dollars

If I add a little more substrate on the hot spot should I still go by the temperature at the very bottom even though it may make the top cooler?

yes, because you are monitoring the bottom of the enclosure; not the substrate. your snake WILL burrow down into the substrate to get to the bottom of the enclosure if they want that extra heat.
