Is he just greedy, or should we feed him more?
Hi all!
Orion is doing great, putting on weight and eating every week. He's about 350g and we've been giving him a 35-45g rat every seven days. However, when we feed him, he eats the rat like within 10 minutes, and then spends the rest of the evening/night attempting to strike at anything or anyone that goes near his tub. So I'm wondering... should we feed him more? I'm like 90% sure that we're feeding him fine, but I just thought I'd get opinions because I don't want to be over feeding him.
Thank you!

sounds like you've got a little glutton! your feeding size and frequency is fine, but he might be able to move up to small rats sooner than the 500g mark if he's big enough. i moved Coffee Bean to smalls at ~460g because she was just so big around and could easily take one. just keep an eye on his body condition and you'll know when he's ready to move up.

If he's striking out at everything, I doubt that's a hunger response and probably more of a defensive response. If you're worried, try feeding him a slightly larger rat.

Thank you! He isn't quite big enough to eat small rats yet, but I will deffo keep an eye on his little bod to see when he gets big enough!

I agree. Snakes can often remain in feed mode for a while after eating, so it may not be that he's necessarily hungry. If say you're feeding size and schedule is fine, but you could probably upsize soon without worry. Just keep an eye on his body structure.
