    Didn't eat tonight?

Boops normal routine tonight except I cleaned her enclosure. She won't eat. She struck it and wrapped twice then left it. I tried hot water like normal, then the hair dryer. Struck both times. I feel sick that she didn't eat. Yes...I'm overreacting. She has always ate for me, even in shed.

    Re: Didn't eat tonight?

what's her weight? could she be hitting "the wall"?

of course you're overreacting, but we all do it.

EDIT: substrate change could have thrown her for a loop tonight.

It's a BP. Get used to them eating when they want lol. Dottie hasnt eaten since mid January. Last year, she didnt eat for about 4 months or so if i remember correctly. The year before, it was about the same, 4-5 months. When she eats, she will pound a medium rat every 1-2 weeks. When she quits, she quits for 3-5 months lol. Glad i got other snakes that act as garbage cans.

The little snot! She ate the dang thing. I draped it over her log, walked out, shut the door. Came in to bed, rat gone! I swear she does this to me just to push my buttons.

She just weighed in at 897 or 987. The book is in the other room and I have cat lap lol.

    Re: Didn't eat tonight?

If/when she goes off feed for a while, take a deep breath and realize she is a happy and healthy BP!

Shayna started going off feed for the winter at about 900G. She does it every winter now for about 5 months and loses 6-8% of her body weight.

She's a little small for a female (about 1600G), so the wall may come later for your little girl, but it often happens. Some never do, and others do it like clockwork.

A 900G BP can go 6-8 months without food before you even have to worry.

My corn and BCI will never refuse a meal, but Shayna seems to monitor herself.

Patience is key with BP's and taking a lot of deep breaths!

We will be there if she goes off feed, but remember, if husbandry is fine, and she is 800-900G, it's nothing to worry about.

Good luck and remember, we are here either way!

Dante got into a mood for 2 months this winter where he would not strike at his meal. I had to drape it over the top of the cool hide and no other place. He would then lay his head on top of the rat for about 5 minutes then drag it into the hide nad eat it. He would then rub his face all over the front acrylic which was covered in rat schmaltz. SO GROSS!

Over the years I have come to the determination that ball pythons are the most annoying feeders in the animal kingdom and I have never wanted to smack an animal for being so tempermental about when they wnatot eat and when they will suddenly go months off feed.

Thankfully I have two other snakes now that would eat themselves to death so at least I have them to feel good about.

Don't get me wrong, Dante is my love but OMG he is annoying some times!
