    Possible enclosure downsize??

I have a 5ft long, 17 year-old male ball python that's currently being housed in a 75 gallon tank. With my new living situation this tank takes up quite a bit of space and it has also been very difficult keeping the humidity at the right percentage. Would downsizing to a 50 gallon be alright for a snake his size provided he has plenty of things to climb as well? I've done all kinds of research but can't find a definitive answer so I figured I'll just ask actual bp owners. Thanks in advance!

Absolutely no problem. 50 gallon should be plenty of space for him.
I would recommend going with a pvc cage, if you are going to invest in a new enclosure. Animal plastics and boaphile have good reviews.

    Yeah, I totally agree.

Go PVC, if possible, for better temp and humidity control.

I'd spend the money there as opposed to another glass enclosure.

Either way a 50G will be fine, as will a 3X2' PVC.

    Good luck!

I highly recommend Boaphile, as I have 5 6X2' tanks stacked, and am incredibly happy.

I also hear good things about Animal Plastics (AP). There are many threads on both in the caging forum.

Feel free to ask if you want advice on what to get or what heating elements you should have, what thermostats, etc.

With the style tanks your talking about your loosing a ton of useful floor room to Hight. Thats not only a loss in space but a loss of Heat and Humidity.
55 gal are 21" H x 12" D x 4' long. The 12" deep is really thin and the 21" H is useless. You would be better with any PVC that has a 24" depth and a lower Hight. Basically like flipping your tank on its side. A example is a T-8 or T-10 from Animal Plastics. Those are the 4' you have with the 55 gal tanks but double the depth and 1/2 the Hight.
Your looking at $200 or $250 to your door. They are Great Displays and my snakes love the floor space at night when they are out and about

Thank you everyone for the advice! I looked into animal plastics and I think I found a proper enclosure, the link is at the bottom. Does that seem adequate? Also any recommendations on the best way to heat it? Thanks again!

Best way to heat that with one source is a 80 or 88 watt RHP from Pro Products or RBI. Those are around $100 shipped. Then you need a Tstat unless you already have one. This Will eliminate having to use a UTH, heat lamps or ceramic heat emitters. 1 trick does it all. You'll know what wattage to get by how cold your house gets at night during the winter. If your house is 68 minimum at night a 80/88 watt would do it..

i have the T8 for my 900g male and i love it! i heat mine with an 80W RHP (RBI) and a UTH (a bit overkill honestly but he's spoiled lol) and it's perfect for him. PVC enclosures hold temps and humidity better than anything out there. be sure to get it with lights! i kick myself to this day for not getting lights.
