Dent in Eye
So I was holding Calliope today and I noticed one of her eyes has a dent in it. I know someone will ask me about the husbandry so her hotside is at 93°, and her cool side is at 88°. The humidity stays between 44-56 but I bump it up when she's in shed. She has two hides on either side of her tank but prefers to lay out in the open. I can't remember if she shed her eye caps in her last shed, I think she did, I always check, and she's been having really good sheds, all one piece never any issues. Any advice?

Re: Dent in Eye
She doesn't seem to be having any issues seeing where she's going and everything but I know that this dent in her eye definitely isn't normal

Re: Dent in Eye
It's probably a hydration issue. What's her humidity at?

Bump her humidity up for a few days and see where it gets you...

So like, bump it up like if she was in shed? Would soaking her in some warm water help a little?

Re: Dent in Eye
personally, i never let humidity drop below 57% ever and try to maintain 60% at all times. IMO your humidity is too low and you're seeing a sign of dehydration: a dented eye. try to go a week with 60% humidity.

Thanks, helpful as always. I had always heard 40%-60% but now I know. I have foil over the top of her tank, and I have a bit of a hard time keeping it between fourth and sixty as is (I have to spray it a lot) is there anything else I can do other than covering the top of her tank to keep her humidity up?

i take a damp - not sopping or dripping wet - hand towel and lay it over one hide (warm side does best) and this can buy you almost a week of bumped humidity before needing to re-wet the towel. you could also wet sphagnum moss and tuck it into a hide or just place a ball of it in the enclosure.
