Need to have Electroconvulsive therapy
I am not doing to well with my bipolar disorder and I am not responding to my medications. I also have PTSD. This past Saturday I had a really bad time, I was at a very low point and I just wanted to give up. I will be having electroconvulsive therapy after I get a physical and an evaluation. I am a little scared but I am so tired of the bipolar taking over my life. I just want to feel stable again. This is pure hell not being able to feel safe and stable. My psychiatrist referred me for the procedure. I have been on so many different meds and I just don't seem to respond. If it were not for my fiancé I probably wouldn't even be here right now.

Keep your chin up, you're not alone.
I'm not the praying type, but I'll be thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way.

Re: Need to have Electroconvulsive therapy
I'm so sorry that medication isn't working for you. Good job being strong enough to keep pursuing treatment regardless. I sincerely hope ECT works for you. I was lucky enough to have the first medication I tried be effective against my life-long depression and it made absolutely everything so much better and easier than I thought it could be. I truly hope you can find a treatment that will do the same for you.

I'm glad you have someone supportive. It's tough. I've added you to my prayers (can't hurt). You've got us here for support, too. Make sure you get a daily snake hug (Another thing that definitely can't hurt!)

Re: Need to have Electroconvulsive therapy
It's amazing and therapeutic that you've come far enough to be honest and forthcoming with such a personal issue. I think you've already begun the road to recovery. Me and my family are supportive of you for sure. Grats.
Stay in peace and not pieces.

Hugs! When I was in school for therapy I spent a day with a clinic that did ECT and it seemed to be very helpful. It was all done under gentle sedation and everything was very controlled, no violent seizure activity just a slight tightening of muscles. It is not a 'cure' it is a treatment, but so many of the patients I talked to said that this gave them a freedom from their symptoms that no amount of medication ever had. Good luck!
