Wondering if I should remove the hides or not. Maybe that'll stress him too much and I should just leave everything as is. Thinking that because when I tried feeding outside of his tank we came to the conclusion it was stressing him out and the breeder fed in the cage as well so it's what he's used to
He should be able to smell the rat when it goes in the tank. You can wait until night time, bring the rat in the room and put it near the tank, or in the tank in a box until he peeks his head out. Then open the box.

Is night time a better feeding time? What if he is out and about already, is it till okay to put the mouse in there?
As long as you think he will see it, anything is fine.
It'll be a live rat so I hope he will see it lol. Just didn't know if it was okay to drop a live rat in there if he was out and about moving around. Looking forward to feeding time!

That's the best time to feed. When he's vigilant. Just watch and make sure the rat doesn't attack him.
They can also see in the dark due to heat pits. All nocturnal snakes can see the heat signature from living prey.
