Is this pre shed?

Looks like his eyes are cloudy and his color is dull. Has a bit of pink tinge to his belly. Does this mean he will shed soon? Mario is scheduled to get a small rat 50 gr. tomorrow is that ok still? Here are a few more pics for fun.

Eyes are blue and if he is getting dull I would say pre-shed for sure. They can get a bit nippy during that time so make sure your son is well aware Mario may strike at him.
Time to bump up the humidity in his cage. You can offer food if you want. Some will eat and others won't during the shed cycle. Once his eyes clear up he should be back to normal and looking fine in 48 hours or so.

Nice to see a younger generation interesting in these amazing animals.

Looks like preshed to me. During his shed you can still offer food but he may or may not take it. I have some that do and some that dont. A shed can be very uncomfortable and stressful so its best to leave them be until they are done with their shed. His eyes will turn very blue and milky, after a few days of that, they will clear up and you will think that he has shed but they do not shed until like 3 days or so after his eyes clear up. You will see his shed when he is complete. Raise his humidity to about 70% until he has shed and you should'nt have any problems. Best of luck.

My vote is YES....shedding time!

My Normal and my Spider both went into shed at the same time (something about two girls living in the same house and their cycles sync or something...lol) the start of last week and when I woke Saturday morning, my Normal had shed perfectly and my Spider had shed...but needed a little help because her shed went bad. I learned the hard way that the humidity needs to be kept way up (~70%-75%) during shed time...the whole time....until you see that wonderful work of nature laying in your enclosure one morning.

I always offer (my preference-you'll have others that don't during shed) on scheduled feeding day on Friday's and they both always feed fine.

Thanks for the info everyone. I will offer tomorrow and then have my son leave him alone until after he sheds. Humidity is a problem for us but I'll continue to mist a few times a day and do my best to keep him at a good level until after shed!

What kind of bedding do you use? During shed, I spray my aspen bedding in my display tank until it's pretty damp, and have had good sheds despite how dry it is here..... and I saturate the paper towels in our rack system until they are barely damp as well... Has worked for me Good luck!

Thanks, we use repti bark. I haven't sprayed too much due to reading about scale rot, mold ect... Ill make sure to give the substrate a good misting. We use a glass aquarium with a che so I know it will be a battle with humidity. Any other tips for holding humidity high during this time are appreciated.

If you pick up some sphagnum moss from a pet store or any gardening centre, then run it under warm water. Squeeze out as much moisture as you can. Then put the moss into his hide, or around his tank, it will release moisture over time and may bring up the humidity. I usually put this into the hide my snake most frequents and it seems to help. Also, I have read of others putting a damp towel over a portion of the lid of the tank.

Giving it a good spray just during shedding time shouldn't give you any problems with scale rot... It's wet/dirty conditions over a period of time I spray mine enough to get the top layer of substrate good and damp, about 3-4 times a day. Also, our display tank has a screen top which is terrible for humidity and heat loss, so we've covered it with a big piece of HD aluminum foil. Really keeps the heat and moisture in. I also put her water dish partially over where the UTH is so it evaporates off, creating more humidity... I just have to refill it a lot more often
