Too much soaking?

Thursday of this week I woke up at 6:30am and found my baby ball soaking, came back home the same day around 7:00pm and found her still soaking. Friday I woke up around the same time (6:30am) and found her in her hide, on the hot side. When I came back home around 5:00pm I found her soaking again. About 3hrs. ago I moved her into a bigger tub and got her a small doggy bowl for her water. About 30min. after setting her up I found her soaking and she is still soaking at the moment. Her last shed was on 1/20/11. I'm just wondering if this is weird and ab-normal for a bp to do.

1. If the snake is going into shed that might be a reason, check for pink belly and eyes turning blue.

2. Check for mites by looking into the bowl with a flashlight and if the snake has mites you'll see black specks in the bottom.

3. Over-heated snakes will soak to hide from the heat, check ambient temps and hot spots.

4. Short of those reasons some snakes just enjoy soaking but I always go through the checklist if I see a snake soak

I dont think she's in shed.

She had mites about a month and a half ago, but all are gone now. Thank god!

All temps are good right now.

While you are checking for mites and the temps, also take a look at the hides and make sure they are snug for your snake. Sometimes they will hang out in the water bowl because they feel more secure there than in in the hides. If there is alot of extra space in them you can put paper balls or some extra substrate in them to fill up some of the space...

my female normal has been doing the same thing. she is about 2500 grams and has been breeding. i got her and all the rest of my bigger snakes bigger water bowls and it seems like they just like to soak. temps are dead on, but i have found a lot of my snakes soaking in there water bowls when they for some reason have not done before. all eat well and there are no mites, so i just figure a lot of them are enjoying it.

Big females will soak to "cool" themselves but if I had more than the occasional soaking snake and especially if multiple snakes were soaking, I'd be very suspect of mites...just saying...

Exactly my thoughts

Once you go through this check list and you're positive these aren't the problems. It could be a 'water bp'. A friend of mine had a girl that was in her water dish EVERY time I went over there! She was a funny little thing. I have one girl that will soak around the time she is shedding even though she has high humidity (I tried really bumping it up when she was going into shed to see if that would stop her from doing it, nope). With that said, I'm also thinking mites are the main thing to look for.

My male does the same thing. Temps seem to be good and I am fighting humidity but have been able to keep it around 45 to 50. I keep looking for mites but haven't seen any so far so I think he just likes soaking
