I would make the back piece 19-1/2" wide so it will mate up with both sides...

or you could make the sides 35 3/4"

have u look at regular wood that is what i used i think it was pine and i stained it white came out mint...because my friend is a builder and said the melamine wood is not very good...just my 2 cents..

Way to pick the absolute worst wood to keep snakes on......Oh and my friend's friend said that saying things are bad without any proof or defense for said item was not very good.

There are pro and cons to each wood, but I would suggest saying them before putting your "2 cents" into the conversation.

I can only find 1/2 inch melamine. Would that work or not?

HD and Lowes should have 3/4, that is all they carry to my knowledge. But 1/2 should work.
Make sure to look into heating before you build and factor that in as well as there are a LOT of DIY rack setups in the DIY and caging section if you need any inspiration.

Hey, I actually found 3/4 inch at HD and for heat I'm goin with 4 inch belly heat on a Herpstat.

I think there is a DIY about using a continuous flex watt strip thru the whole rack. Allows heat to be better kept in the rack, along with having belly heat.
That being because the continuous strip will have to do a S pattern down the rack allowing for side heat and belly heat. This will help keep ambient temps up.
Or if your handy you can wire in parallel.

Yes I'm going for the continuous strip , had to many probs before with using multiple heat sources heating unevenly. I will try looking for that thread you mention. Do u know the name of the thread?

if you're using bell heat, be careful. flexwatt plastic coating is very thin. sliding a tub back and forth over it in time, will cause wear on it. Read that a thin piece of metal like roof flashing works well in protecting the flexwatt. just make sure that it doesn't come into contact with the metal inside the flexwatt, (at the edge of the flexwatt).
