Mites!! Help!

I noticed my bp soaking alot more than usually and I took her out and saw a few mites on her. I took everything out, cleaned the entire tank with Natural Chemistry Reptile Spray, sprayed the hides, and replaced the bedding. A few days later, the mites were back. I am currently using the half log hides, I think the mites are hiding in there. So how do I kill the mites that are hiding in the bark?

The most recommend most effective Mite treatment out there is PAM (Provent A Mite) or Black Night.

They both are VERY effective and designed to be used with reptiles.

Not only do they get rid of mites but they provide long term residual protection which no other product does.

Always a good thing to have a can handy especially if you plan on more snakes in the furture (QT and PAM treatment of new snake is always a good thing)

If you have more than one snake make sure to treat them all and make sure to follow the instructions to a T.

I will second Prevent a mite. You will NOT find a better product anywhere. We had mites in 7 of our tanks, and with proper cleaning and treatment, it was much less worse then it could have been.

Don't waste time with anything but PAM. Its the best.

also i would get rid of the half log hide.. replace it with some reptile basics hides!!

Spray animal with Reptile Relief, spray their tub with RR, remove old substrate and discard in black plastic bag, respray tub with RR. Replace substrate and hide, (I would also suggest replacing the bark hide with a plastic one) spray entire enclosure with PAM, let PAM dry then add snake and water bowl. Do this with EVERY ANIMAL in the collection. When finished get rid of the plastic bag...far away!! Mites will come back because they lay eggs everywhere, cracks in hides, corners of tubs, under animals scales, but the PAM should take care of them. In 2 weeks take each animal and water bowl out, leave old substrate, spray with PAM. Let dry and replace animal and water bowl. 2 weeks later completely clean each tub, spray with PAM and throw out all old substrate. During this month long process I also recommend using newspaper as substrate. This should rid you of these pest. Good luck. If you have any other reptiles anywhere else in the home they need to go through the exact same treatment.

Everything everyone else said lol. The thing about mites is it seems they can pop up even if you never go to pet stores, reptile shows, or bring new herps into your collection. I recommend treating with P.A.M about once every month or 2. I keep a few empty tubs with treated Aspen and just rotate the snakes around into a new treated tub when I clean. That way no one gets mites but also the tubs have plenty of dry time after treatment before putting snakes in.

They supposedly have a 2-3 week life cycle but its better to be safe than sorry.

Well said...We all hate mites and unfortunately it's part of the hobby...They are migratory little boogers, thus preventative PAM treatments are key!!!
