    Got tubs!

I just got two 41 qt tubs for my normal girl and my soon to be pastel girl.
I got all the holes drilled and everything... I have 10 holes in each long side...

I couldnt find any aluminum duct tape, can I use regular duct tape on the UTH or no?

    Pics

Will those binder clips hold the lid on well enough? Im not to worried about the bottom one but should I add something to the top to keep the lid closed?

Is that enough holes for adequate ventilation/air.

Ive got a UTH and repti temp 500r comming from reptilesupply.com (hopefully) i already ordered them.

For paper substrate to keep humidity up can I spray the paper? Im going to add water dishes too...

    1) You can find aluminum (or foil) tape at Home Depot, that's where I purchased mine. I wouldn't think it's too safe to use regular duct tape.

    2) The binder clips would be fine, but just in case you should put something heavy on top of the top lid to hold it down.

    3) That should be enough holes. Just make sure the humidity stays at a good level between 50%-60%, but if it gets lower than 50% even after a spray you would need to cover up a few holes.

    4) Spraying the paper is just fine, just don't spray too much where you soak the paper and then your humidity will go well over 60%. All you really need to do it just spray the tub lightly (just a couple of sprays) with warm water and your good for a few days. I haven't sprayed since almost a week ago and the humidity is at a stable level.

    Hope you enjoy those tubs.

Plus, I notice that you have a half log hide, just a side note that the log would not be secure enough for your Ball python, more stressful than secure. Get two, identical hides (for both tubs) that hug the snake on all sides and only has one entrance. The hides on reptilebasics.com work really well, I would suggest getting hides from that website.

Well just make sure that the Cool Whip container hugs the snake on all sides.

I hope the tubs aren't too big for the snakes. Normally 41 qt's are used for breeding sized females.

I dont think they will be. I have my female now in a 40 gallon or something like that maybe 38. but she does fine. If it is to big im just going to block off half the tub so its half the size.

    Re: Got tubs!

Becuase the holes are a bit low, it might hold humidity more than you'd like, I put all of my holes towards the top, and about 30 holes per tub, and still have really high humidity.
If you add more holes, try adding them at the top.

If you tape the heat tape to the tub, you will not enjoy cleaning them over and over.

You may want to put a board down between tubs and under the bottom tub, and lay the heat tape on that, so you don't need to tape it on the tub at all.

I do this same thing, but I use locking tubs that cost a bit more, but then you don't need to worry about clips holding the lid on either

Ill have to see how it goes, for my tank i have now its horrible at holding humidity so I have to spray like 2-3 times a day... hopefully tubs make it much easier then that...
If it does turn out to be a problem ill probably put smaller holes up higer in between the holes i already have. (it would be 38 holes a tub, if i do 9 smaller ones on each side)

lol... im like inbetween the stage of needing a rack and not. I would have made one but a two tub rack isnt very necessary... I have to keep them lifted up though so air gets to the heater. I used skate board wheels for the top tub.. I need to find something for the bottom one...

Ill probably end up taping them on just because It would be a hassle for me to have two random boards just on and under my tubs that I have to move around all the time to get in the bottom tub. I dont think it will be that hard to just un plug the heater to move the tub for cleaning.

I should have gotten locking tubs I didnt really look for them but... yeah... I dont know if they had 41 qt locking tubs either. Eventually i wont need any lids once i get a rack lol.

In addintion to the binder clips, I was using bungee cords on mine. But, I switched to those luggage straps which look better IMO.

Also, depending on where you live, if you have high ambient humidity, you may need to get a fan to circulate the air in the tubs to keep the humidity down.
As for tub sizes, I have my yearling in a 32qt, my 2 y/o in a 41qt, and my 5 y/o in a 60qt. It basically has the same floor space as his 50gl tank. Just not the height. I've only had him in there for a couple of weeks so I'll see how it goes...

A cheap shelf, a 2, 3 or 4 shelf unit can be got for a few bucks at goodwill.
Set the tubs on the heat tape, plug into t-stat and wala.
    I have been in-between for 2 years, lol, I understand in-between

The water could/would get on the heat tape, maybe under it, maybe in the connections, and then you have to let it dry, or blow dry it, or...it just seems a hassle is all

Locking tubs work great, I've been using them for 2 yrs and had no issues, except me forgetting to lock them lol.
34 qt tubs bottom and middle and 15 and 6 qt up top.

40 qt sterilite ultra locking tubs
