Shredded paper will let the heat work better for you & IMHO place the probe outside, right on the UTH where snake & water can't get to it.

Which probe do you mean? The tstat probe, yes, but the thermometer probe should be measuring temps where the snake actually is. The Accurite probes are also pee proof. The unit...ehh, not so much.

Yeah, I found that out this morning when I woke up to find my female mojave had shed, pooped, and peed all over the place. What a great way to start the morning before work.

Yes, I meant the T-stat to the heat source. Therm probe should be secured so it's not moved around etc.

I say get a temp gun! I have an accurite probe hot glued to the bottom of the the tank about my UTH and the accurite reads about 95*. The temp gun reads more like 91-92. So I say get a temp gun to confirm your temps. The accurites arent perfectly accurate but they are good for making sure temps stay constant.

Its always good to double check temperature but the problem with heat guns is the huge difference in accuracies. A cheap one can be bought at lowe's for 25 bucks but if you read the back it says the gun can be off by as much as 5 degrees C, thats 9 degrees F! If you go ahead and get a quality one (i paid 70) you can get one that is accurate to within 2 degrees F. I'm not saying you cant get a good one cheaper, just make sure you check the specs

Yeah the warm side seems fine, and I got the cool side hovering around 78-80 this morning so hopefully it'll be ok for now. I might try another smaller uth if need be... And when I have some money. Thanks everybody for the help

How do you secure the thermometer probe to the top of the substrate, especially if using aspen?
