It is a common mistake. 2 females can give birth, and all the babies end up in one pile. sometimes you don't even realize the second mom was prego.... and you assume that they are all from the same litter.

    thanks.

I agree that that mistake could easily be made.

Mike, you have loads of experience with these guys and I'm sure you have so many litters that its hard to keep track of amounts, but what is your record?

You can believe it or not.. but this is when i first started breeding them. harder to count now. Before I didnt do trios or anything like that I had a pair for one snake who ate them.
With the bins with more than one female I have been known to count over 40 babies. so what would that mean..

Keeping it real here (where is my Keep On Trucking gif?). I know the litters I posted were dropped by one female.

I have two more first time moms about to drop and both are HUGE and are in bins with only one other (the impregnator!!!). If they are over 15 I will shoot an update into the thread.

There is a big difference between 15 + and shadi that claims to have had multiple litters over 25. I was referring to his claim when I we requested that we keep it real... not yours.

quite frankly shadi, if you have on multiple occasions had litters of more then 25, I would be willing to bet that you have miscounted on multiple occasions.

    Re: Your largest litter

Well mike, I do want you to know very frequently we do have 40+ babies in our tubs at a time. Believe it or not some people have larger liters than others. For a long time we were using a local rodent diet that was at 23% protein. This is when we had larger production from our females. Our numbers have only fallen off recently due to the age of our breeders. So i will ask this question in response to you. How old are your breeders. We have been breeding softfurs now for almost 3 years. I finally retired our first set of breeders about 6 months ago. I am sure you will question this aswell but if you would like to "call" me a liar its ok. My wife did not lie about these figures. We have decide that facts are facts. I had 140 babies in one month with 4 bins with trios. If I didn't average close to 20 a mom I wouldn't have done those kind of numbers. Just goes to show you what 2 know nothings can do.

Easy tiger. I never said you were a liar. I only suggested that you probably miscounted. My breeders are all relatively young... all been breeding for less then 6 months. The reason for that is because I, and every other breeder I know of that produces in high numbers know that after about 6 or 7 litters production drops off sharply. 6 months after their first litter I feed them off. The idea that you just got rid of 2 1/2 year old breeders seems a little crazy to me.

Anyways, your example that I am assuming was to show you do have litters of 25+... (because that is the argument) Please allow me to do some calculations.

you had 140 babies from 4 trios, (8 moms) over a month. assuming each mom had one litter during that month, that would be an average litter of 17.5 (pretty far away from 25+) by simple calculations. Real calculations though would show the real average much less then that.... considering a mom will have babies on the 1st, and then by the 24th again on average. So how does this support your claim of 25+ baby litters?

    Re: Your largest litter

Thank you for your imput. Yes 15 to 25 is estimated range. I would say average is 17 or 18. But this thread is about largest litter not average.
