Let me introduce to you all.....Dexter. What a calm, well mannered little boy!!!! No hissing, no musk, no defensive posture. Perfect health and toasty warm upon arrival.He is cruising his new cage without a care in the world as I type this. Dr. Larry's reptiles.....thank you!

I reached my hand into that shipping bag like it had a loaded mousetrap on the bottom of it.....and he never made any sign of aggression! Awesome! Thanks man!

He looks awesome and I'm guessing a similar age to my female Pearl - she hatched in August.

My girl is also really chilled, rarely hisses and has never struck.

Perhaps their docility has something to do with Pearl genetics if most hatchlings are snappy?

I think it has to do with what a breeder is breeding. The problem I see with Breeders is only breeding for morphs and not temperaments. Like the Dog problems. 20 years ago there weren't all these people trying to make all these different colors.. Now for instance Jay Brewer hatches thousands and thousands of snakes and the temperament of the snake has not a thing to do with it. In 1991 through 1998 when I got my first 2 Burms there was NO striking from any of the ones I looked at or saw others purchase.. Lots of noise but no striking.

Very nice Kevin and congrats. I've got Loki on my lap right now and tried to show him his brother. He flicked his tongue a couple of times and then acted like if it ain't a rat get outta here and went back to relaxing. Lol. Having had a Burm some 3 decades ago and again now, there isn't any such thing as holding them too much. Mine at this point will explore for about 5 minutes when I first get him out then it's lap dog time for him. The only battle I ever have with him is putting him back in his cage. It's like hey man what did I do wrong to get put up. Lol. You are in for a lot of fun and enjoyment with Dexter. Oh and of course a growth rate unlike you have ever seen. Dexter will give you the hey I'm hungry act after you feed him then a day or two after you feed him. Not striking but highly interested in you coming close to the cage. Don't give in. Feed him appropriate sized meals once every 5 to 7 days and your snake will grow happily and healthy. I alternate around on my days between feedings. Something I've always done to mimic the uncertanties a snake would face in the wild and to prevent any possible patterns or habits.

So cool! The night drop temperature kicked in on my thermostat and he was DEFINATELY out cruising for rats lol. Its amazing how food-driven they are.Very neat to talk to the owner of his brother, small world! I often thought it would be neat to have a database from a clutch to see where they all end up.....almost like an ancestry site for snakes! I plan on 7 days between feedings for at least six months, and then examine his size at that point to determine if I should then bump it to two weeks (as suggested by CALM). Some of the healthiest looking adult Burms Ive seen are on 3-4 week feeding schedules once they hit the rabbit stage so I want to do that when he's full grown. The feeding info is all over the place though, some keepers feed weekly right up into the adult stage....but it seems like you can run into some weight problems if you do that. 3 weeks at adult stage seems optimal....but thats a long ways away.

I actually might start out here doing 5 day increments though because Larry was maintenance feeding him Im sure to keep a bunch of Burm hatchlings from outgrowing the rack space. Thanks for the suggestion!
