Question Is there something wrong with my snake?

The last 3 times I've fed my Leeloo, she has either struck at the stomach or back end of the mouse. I have to constantly watch for her to strike so I can make sure the mouse doesn't bite into her. Is there a reason that she isn't striking at the head like the first 3 or 4 feedings?

you'll always have to watch when feeding live regardless of where she strikes. there's nothing wrong with her; sometimes snakes get it wrong. the snake is still young, correct? i'm sure this can be stressful when feeding live but she should figure it out over time.

Why not try feeding thawed frozen ??
It's far cheaper as well ..

She's been fed live since birth. I didn't want to change that.

Feeding F/T out weighs live by many reasons. Cost and especially safety for your snake. It is your animal however so choose wisely lol.

feeding live comes with many disadvantages vs f/t, especially once the animal needs to eat larger prey. a small rat, which she will be eating within a year or so, can do way more damage than the size you're feeding now if something were to go wrong.

JSYK: the older the snake gets, the harder it can be to make the switch. since you seem very concerned with feeding live i'd consider the pros and cons of f/t, but ultimately it's up to you.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into changing her over.

If you do go down the thawed frozen route , try my method .

This method WORKS great - if done properly ...

I wait until evening as they're nocturnal of course . I let the rodent thaw out in the reptile room so they get the smell ..
Then I warm up the mouse / rat with a hairdryer and offer with tongs IMMEDIATELY whilst still warm . If refused simply repeat the heating and offering as many times as needed. .
A couple of mine will only strike feed from within their hides so I dangle the warm rodent in front of the hide's entrance - usually works but if it fails simply reheat the rodent with a hairdryer and immediately offer again whilst it's still warm continue until it's grabbed ...

Incidentally , if it shows no interest at all not even a tongue flicker maybe it's best to leave for a week or so.
