Hatchling ball python with bylging eyes

This is my first go at breeding ball pythons, and has not been a very easy run. Out of 6 eggs from my pewter female / champagne Mojave male, only 2 made it (2 were infertile and 2 more were lost during incubation). The first hatchling out had its cord twisted so wasn't able to absorb the yolk. Carefully removed baby and yolk from egg, untwisted the cord and it was able to absorb most of the yolk with no problem and is doing great! Now when the second one emerged I noticed both eyes were very large. They didn't appear cloudy or discolored so I thought maybe was just a genetic deformity. They are 8 days old today, and the eyes appear to be getting cloudy now. Friday evening when I got home from work the babies left eye was down back to normal, so thought hey maybe it will right itself. But then the next day it had started swelling again. I had looked into blocked lacrimal ducts but thought that would be very abnormal with it being a hatchling and not having taken a first meal yet. I brought to the vet I work at and we opened the mouth and cleaned along the roof of the mouth with a wet cotton swab to see if we could clear anything that might me clogging the ducts...but the swelling is still there. I have started some antibiotic drops just incase that might help (neo poly gram). Has anybody had this with a hatchling before!!?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! THanks. New to this site so not really sure if this was done correctly. Hope the photos come up!

Congenital issues like this have been reported in various snake species, it's believed to be a tear duck issue leading to increased pressure of the eye.

Is there a known treatment I could try? I'm just worried it will rupture out or cause the animal pain and end up having to be euthanized

Holy crap, I've never seen anything like that before I hope there is some way to relieve the pressure from the eye, if one deflated at one point (even if it swelled back up again later) I would think it could happen again, if you could figure out how to make it happen... Best of luck for you and the little guy!

Some albino boas that have gotten this bug eye issue have successfully been treated with Terramycin ointment, see if your vet will recommend this for you,

Re: Hatchling ball python with bylging eyes

Well this morning the left eye has gone down again, that right eye though :/ ive had somebody say to have my vet make a very small incision in the eye cap to relieve pressure ...that makes me very nervous to try though. I will show them the link that was shared and see if they can get a plan together
