Re: Corny, my adopted corn snake
upping his prey size has really started to show! he's a lot less restless in his enclosure.
i just finished a full enclosure cleaning and got a weight on him.

Corny is up almost 40g since the beginning of June. he's added 1.5 times his body weight since then!

Re: Corny, my adopted corn snake
Somehow I missed out on this entry!! Now I am geeking out over it. What a beautiful snake. Can't wait to see more of him as he grows. Thanks Taylor!

now that Corny is on medium mice i've noticed that, while the bulge he gets afterwards looks huge, he has no problems moving about and still shows signs of hunger after 4-5 days. i think i'm finally realizing just how skinny this guy is and how underfed he's been; the bulge he gets looks huge compared to the rest of his body, but it's his BODY that's small, not the bulge that's big.
i think this guy is like, maybe upwards of 100g too small from where he should be. i'm really happy that he's eating, shedding and growing but i feel like i'm still not doing enough or doing right by him. the medium mice already make him look like he's swallowed a football; i can't up his prey size and i don't want to try and power-feed him. i can't catch up to 4 years of underfeeding in the 8 months i've had him.
i'm just rambling and getting thoughts out. thanks for reading.

At the end of the day, it's important to remember that you really don't need to catch up. As long as he's being fed appropriately now, that's the best thing you can do for him. Any damage that's done is done, and it's reasonably likely that there's little to none in the first place because snakes are made for low food conditions. It's what they do best. Just let him grow at his pace. Also, he's very cute.
