Got the Acu-Rite today! Slight prob though...
I got the acu rite to replace the gauge types today (i'm learning thanks to this site) and my warm side was close, around 95 so I got the uth dialed down to 91 there now. But my cool side is only at 75... How can I get that side up without getting the warm side too hot? Or will that be ok? Thanks for any help!

Re: Got the Acu-Rite today! Slight prob though...
What type of enclosure is it? If it's a glass tank then cover 2/3 to 3/4 of the screen with foil above the warm side. You can go as high as 95 on the UTH if needed, but this should get you there.

It's a tub, probably should have mentioned that ha

Re: Got the Acu-Rite today! Slight prob though...
Just don't let it go any lower. I'm guessing you have A/C? Since it can't be that cool in Alabama. Raise the A/C temp maybe?

Re: Got the Acu-Rite today! Slight prob though...
Is this the temp on the UTH itself or the temp on the surface of the tub above the UTH? If it's on the UTH itself you can increase this temp upwards of 100 degrees as long as the surface of the tub above the UTH does not rise above 95.

I've got the probe on the inside of the tub underneath the bedding, the unit is on the cool end sitting on the bedding. And yeah the ac was on a little too low... Turned it up a couple degrees. My sister likes it way too cool in here for my tastes anyway ha

Fill her room with ice. :)

What bedding are you using? I had to switch to paper recently to get proper temps with only flexwatt. The aspen was trapping too much heat. If that's not it then I'm out of suggestions unless your A/C was extremely cold.

Maybe raising the ac will do it, I'm gonna give it a while and check it. Thanks yall!
Oh I'm using sani chip I think it's called? Friend of mine gave me some when I got the bp

I have similar issues. I could never get my cool side temps high enough, so I had to get a heatlamp (suspended it about 8-12" above the tub). This solved the problem until the bulb blew on a weekend when I was away. It was replaced with a UTH and dimmer. The dual UTHs are working great for me.

Shredded paper will let the heat work better for you & IMHO place the probe outside, right on the UTH where snake & water can't get to it.

Which probe do you mean? The tstat probe, yes, but the thermometer probe should be measuring temps where the snake actually is. The Accurite probes are also pee proof. The unit...ehh, not so much.

Yeah, I found that out this morning when I woke up to find my female mojave had shed, pooped, and peed all over the place. What a great way to start the morning before work.

Yes, I meant the T-stat to the heat source. Therm probe should be secured so it's not moved around etc.

I say get a temp gun! I have an accurite probe hot glued to the bottom of the the tank about my UTH and the accurite reads about 95*. The temp gun reads more like 91-92. So I say get a temp gun to confirm your temps. The accurites arent perfectly accurate but they are good for making sure temps stay constant.

Its always good to double check temperature but the problem with heat guns is the huge difference in accuracies. A cheap one can be bought at lowe's for 25 bucks but if you read the back it says the gun can be off by as much as 5 degrees C, thats 9 degrees F! If you go ahead and get a quality one (i paid 70) you can get one that is accurate to within 2 degrees F. I'm not saying you cant get a good one cheaper, just make sure you check the specs

Yeah the warm side seems fine, and I got the cool side hovering around 78-80 this morning so hopefully it'll be ok for now. I might try another smaller uth if need be... And when I have some money. Thanks everybody for the help

How do you secure the thermometer probe to the top of the substrate, especially if using aspen?

Sorry man, that sucks. They advertise on this site tho.
Somebody told me about it when I was putting together a "checklist" of stuff I needed before I had my first BP delivered. Works quite well and I am very happy with it.

Put the thermometer probe below the substrate, directly on the glass, and either have the hide hold it down or use a dab of hot glue on the glass and attach it that way. You would then have the temperature of the glass and know that the temperature on the substrate will be a couple degrees lower. Depending on what and how much substrate

Re: Got the Acu-Rite today! Slight prob though...
Hi,
Bear in mind in the initial setup phase you are going to want to be able to move the probe about to check the temps at various points.
On top of the substrate inside the warm end hide, ditto in the cool end hide at a bare minimum.
Once you have it adjusted you only really need it make sure it doesn't change.
