eggbound snake please help
I just received this snake from the pet store I used to work at. it looks to be pretty badly egg bound. the guy told me it has been this way for a couple of weeks. any idea on if she could possibly still lay them or does it need vet attention. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. it isn't my snake but I would like to see it pull through this. thanks in advance.

Re: eggbound snake please help
I would get her to a vet asap, if one of my snakes started to look anything like that.
Re: eggbound snake please help
I say vet. Too bad for the clutch I hope momma makes it though.
Re: eggbound snake please help
Yes get her to a vet asap. She doesn't look good at all.
Re: eggbound snake please help
HOLY CRAP! no doubt about it... straight to the vet.
My uneducated guess is there is no reason to worry about the eggs because they are already dead. I don't think there is any way eggs that are still good would be hard enough to make the snake look like that... but again this is an uneducated guess.
Re: eggbound snake please help
That is not natural. She has a problem and needs medical care.
Re: eggbound snake please help
Does the pet store have a vetrinarian that they use ? I can't believe they would not take care of this .If they knew what was wrong . Hope everythiing turs out ok .:please:
Re: eggbound snake please help
You may try contacting Corey Woods. He has given advice on another forum about what to do with egg bound females, but I can find the post.

I think he was asking if it was still possible for her to purge on her own. And if you were replying to my messege Thats why I said "to bad for the clutch" what a waste.
Well good luck bud and keep us posted on her. I hope she makes it through. I dont think she should be bred again for quite some time if ever.
Re: eggbound snake please help
well I got up early this morning to check on her and she died last night.:(
Re: eggbound snake please help

Re: eggbound snake please help

That sucks. =/
Re: eggbound snake please help
That is so sad. I hope this isnt a stupid question but do you think the eggs would be salvagable if you had a vet remove them?
If it were my snake Id feel a little better if her babies made it.

Those eggs are more than likely long dead.
Re: eggbound snake please help
In the future you can try using a large bore needle and draining the eggs. It was probably too late for that female no matter what you did though. I have never had much luck taking snakes to the vet even though I do have a pretty good exotics vet. You more than likely would have ended up spending a ton of money and still losing the snake anyway.

Make sure you do it before the eggs go that long. They calcify fairly quickly.
Re: eggbound snake please help
Damn thats terrible I'd freak out if I lost one must have been painful too. Poor thing
Re: eggbound snake please help
I had that happen earlier this year for my first time... A nice Pastel female bred to a Pastel Ivory! She started nesting and then went back into shed again... I thought that was weird but didnt think much of it... Then she dropped one slug and had what looked like 2 big lumps of maybe 3 eggs apeice...
She had 2 giant eggs surgically removed maybe a month and a half after she should have dropped them. She is doing fine, but I was getting pretty bummed out when she looked so uncomfortable! Now she just has a bunch of stitches!
Re: eggbound snake please help
after posting this morning I cut her open to try and save the eggs, just in case. but they were all bad already and smelled terrible. any thoughts on why this could have happend?
Re: eggbound snake please help
I think you need to take her to the vet NOW. You never know when she might get an infection that will kill her.
