All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
These babies are driving me CRAZY! I don't know what to hold back.
I want to hold back all of my females. I know I can't do this though, because my wife would kill me in my sleep. So now I have to try to start figuring out what ones I do want to hold back, if any.... then I have to figure out what normal female breeders I will try to move out to make room. But I don't want to get rid of those breeder normals, because they are in fact breeders... and the babies will take 3 years to start producing. so i need to buy more racks. wait I can't because my wife will kill me in my sleep.
I keep having this conversation with myself and can't figure out how to end this vicious cycle. please help me.

Hmmm.... I don't know! I'm a wife who thinks the more snakes we have, the better (and I'm the primary caretaker, too).
Babies don't take up MUCH room... what's one more rack?! :)

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
I go through the same one more rack won't hurt. LOL She wants me to sell all the babies I'm keeping half.

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
lol.. let her know your decision dilemma and then sleep with one eye open while the new hatchling rack is on its way or being built by you. :D I have the same problem with hubby, he wants no pets, we have lots of them.

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
Just get a new rack. Sneak it into the house, and when she notices it just say "Oh that thing? I have had it for a while now" And if that does not work, just remember that it is easier to beg for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.

Don't have quite enough racks to pull that off yet. also doesn't help that she has been with me every time I have bought a rack in the past...
The forgiveness is easier then permission is genius though...

Mike the answer to your problem is simple.. you wont like it though.

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
Just out of curiosity, why breed so many if you cant keep them?

Those are fighting words!!!!!
Oh well, I have plenty of time to figure this out... it will be a long time before they outgrow the hatchling rack they are in.

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
Another suggestion would be to sell all the babies and use the money to buy that dream animal you always wanted. Then sneek the rack in next year and go for it.:gj::gj:

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
the problem here is "your wife might kill you"
to solve, why dont you sell some, and get her something that she REALLY wants, then she wont kill you anymore. then say, that all come from selling some of the snakes.
and maybe from there, she will see a positive side of things.
well, that works for me tho..
good luck..

This is the best idea yet!!! Or ask forgiveness?? My wife has me on a 6 snake limit until we get a house, but I told her in the begining I was breeding and needed her to get her sowing stuff out of my snake room. I sleep onthe couch now :(

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
My wife and I have an agreement that she gets 90% of whatever comes of this....I get the bites and cleaning part, oh yeah, and 10% to reinvest. I think I got the good end of the stick. LOL!

Ouch...I'm the snake keeper of my family, but if I was married and my husband told me to get my sewing stuff out of the snake room, I'd kick him to the couch, too!!!
And Mike, I have the perfect solution!! Send 'em over here, I'll keep 'em for you. *wink, grin* But seriously, that does suck. Maybe you could build a smaller rack to keep the "keepers" in, rather than buying one? It might be cheaper that way, I guess, and you could cover the costs of the new handmade rack by selling off the babies you don't wanna keep. Convince the wife that it's good by telling her it's practice for...fixing household things, or something! :P

Lying is my #1 pet peeve.. more than a pet peeve, I get furious at people who lie.
You should always be honest with your wife :)

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
Welcome to a breeders yearly concern....
LOL
I go thru it every year, and every year I regret something I did or didn't do...

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
My wife keeps trying to convince me to get rid of the normals, my rack has room for 7 more.... so I dont have to worry too much about the new rack issue.... YET.
I agree with Ed though, if you sell some of the hatchlings off and get her something she wants she may be more willing to accept a new rack. I know my wife wouldn't mind something nice and new that she wanted, and then she wouldn't mind letting me have what I want. :gj:

He didnt lie... he just excluded certain details. By the time she realizes he has it, he will have had it for a while. haha

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
The best plan is to reward her for her putting up with your passion for BP's. I know one individual who's wife would not touch the animals until he paid for a nice vacation with the money. Now she messes with themmore than he does.

Manbutter, it is my beliefe that a man who has not stretched the truth with his wife has not been married very long or is wrapped beyond belief. Honest or not. ;)

I have been with my wife 6 years three of those married. I don't believe in Lieing or stretching the truth with her. If she's being a PITA I tell her. It doesn't all way make her happy but I'm no mystery. Honesty and integrity are two things that make a man if you can't have those with your spouse then who can you.
I at one time had my couple of snakes in the office in the house. Once I got 8-10 the wife told me no more till I got them out of the house. So I renovated two storage rooms that are attached to my garage and move them out there..Now I got room galore. and she got what she wanted.

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
Lying is definitely NOT the way to go. Even though the whole "Oh that, I've had that for a while" is pretty funny. It would just cause resentment and anger toward Mike's snake hobby.
I think if you sat down with her (make her dinner or go to a nice restaurant;)) and said you needed her help to make an "executive decision" about your breeding plans she would be exited you want to include her and want her help. Try to show her WHY its a really bad idea to sell your breeder girls BUT how much better your collection and future breeding would be if you held back the VERY best of what you produced this year. But don't say "can I keep..." instead say something like "I would need to hold back..." Get her involved with the "business" and collection end of the hobby if she's not in to handling them and caring for them. Plus it is always great to get involved with her hobbies too even if its just talking about them not actually participating. Also, the idea of using the profit from sales to do something together is a huge incentive for you to increase your collection.
Good Luck :gj::gj::gj:

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
Let me say first off that I have been married for eight very happy years now. While I do not lie to my wife, I was sure most married men would understand what I was saying and take it as it was, and not seriously, but you can't force a sense of humor on people I guess.

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
Mike,
Straighten out your skirt and keep what you want to keep. If she gives you any lip, buy her a pair of shoes. That'll keep her occcupied for a while.

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
I always prefer to ask for forgiveness rather than permission. At least that way you get what you want.

Re: All this breeding has created quite the problem... a conversation with myself...
My problem is completely opposite. I dont build new racks because my wife will fill them up!

Haha...that's great.
To build off of this...
If she asks you, "why do you need so many snakes?"
Ask her, "why do you need all those shoes?"
Luckily, my wife has trouble distinguishing what a morph is. So she can never tell when I get a new snake unless she wants to go thru and count them all.
There have been a couple of instances we have had company over. I pull out a new snake she is not aware of to show off. My wife asks, "is that a new one?" I respond, "no...you don't remember this one? I have always had it." ;)
They eventually give up. :)
