Re: dehydration issue
How do you know he's dehydrated?
Is there a water bowl with clean water in his enclosure? They will drink as they see fit.

Re: dehydration issue
there is a water bowl in the tub but he acts like he is avoiding it some he has loose skin with lots of lateral folds and just acts all around sluggish compared to my others

Re: dehydration issue
Well your first problem is that he is not a pastel :/
You could try soaking him in some room temp water and see if he drinks when in the soak.
Also, a pinky rat is probably too small for that snake. You could probably go with small adult mice or small rat pups.

Re: dehydration issue
he is a pastel just not that great of one his back color is almost normal but his belly and side colors are def. pastel but i let him soak for awhile and he drank some i also checked the humidity in his tub along with the others and they were a little low so i misted them and turned my humidifier on in the room but he showed signs that the soak helped him some ill just keep and eye on him and soak him again tomorrow it just worried me cuz this is the first time i had one get this way thanks for the advice :gj:

Re: dehydration issue
Glad he drank for you!
I would check the morphs forum and see for yourself. Green eyes, clear belly, and faded head are the signs of a pastel and your snake doesn't have those traits ):

Re: dehydration issue
For a sec there I thought he was shedding lol but it kinda doesn't look like it.
Soak him in warm water for a good 10-20 minutes daily. While he bathes he'll soak up some of it through his skin and also drink some of it. Give him clean, fresh water daily as well.
The thing I do with my snakes if I don't see them drinking (I stay up ALL night now.. and I know all of them roam around) during the day or the night then I will take the snake and put his/her head up the water and sometimes let their front lip touch the water and they will drink the water while I'm holding them up to it.

Re: dehydration issue
Yeah, he looks exactly like my normal girl. Very pretty snake. Anyhow, I just wanted to say that you might want to post some pics of the set up, maybe someone can help see why he is avoiding the water bowl.

Re: dehydration issue
You can even soak them for HOURS in shallow warm water to help hydrate them better. Soaking for 10 to 20 minutes never helps with my animals. I ALWAYS soak em for 2 to 3 hours.
And he's NOT getting ready to shed?
I don't think he's dehydrated though, dehydration folds in the skin run PARALLEL with the snake, NOT HORIZONTAL.

Re: dehydration issue
i at first thought it was just a bad shed so i soaked him in shed ease a few days after i got him and got a bit of stuck shed off his head and thats when i noticed its not a shed prob. but im not as worried now that he is getting better now that i soaked him so ill just keep an eye on him. and no he dont have the green eye but his side color is a lot like that of a low quality pastel i just cant get pic that are worth a crap cuz of my camera is so old and bout to quit lol
ill just wait till he grows up and see if he turns out to be something other than normal

Re: dehydration issue
turns out he was going into shed i didnt think he was cuz the stuck shed on his head but it turns out that that was from a previous shed that didnt come off and his humidity was too low i got that fix and now hes soaking in the shed ease to help him get all of his shed off this time its just a relief that its not a dehydration issue like i thought :gj:

Re: dehydration issue
That's good, I'm glad he's fine.
But listen to folks here--if you bought him as a pastel, you got ripped off. He is definitely--as in, no question about it whatsoever--not a pastel.
His eyes are dark. Pastels have light eyes--greenish. Always.
His head is black/dark brown. Pastels have light heads. Always.
Pastels have a jungle body pattern.
He appears to be what is known as a 'reduced pattern' normal. Not a bad snake, and reduced pattern can be bred for and is in high demand, though I don't think it's been shown to be a specific gene.
Here is a picture of a darker pastel hatchling:

Although the eye is shadowed in this photo so you cannot tell that it is green--trust me, it is. You can clearly see how the top of the head is very light, and the body pattern is 'jungle'--aberrant and irregular.
Here is another pastel female, a yearling--again, you can see the large faded area on top of the head, and you can see that the eye is olive green--you can distinguish the pupil from the rest of the eye.

I hope this helps.
