Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
I purchased my first Mojo the other day and he came in the mail safe and sound. My big issue with him is that he is like no Mojave I have ever seen before. Every mojo Ive seen has been super dark, this guy is super light and grey. The darkest color on him is a light brown, but it looks way darker in the photos. Hes gorgeous, and I love him...I just want to know what you all think of him.

Looks like a "Gray" mojo. I've got a big females like that.
-
Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
looks good to me i like that he is lighter.
-
Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
Are the "grey"/lighter mojos common? I havent seen any, all Ive seen are the super dark ones.
-
Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?

It seems that the darker gray babies tend to mature into this lovely almost "lesser-ish" look to them. My male started out a deep rich dark gray as a baby, and he's matured into a lovely blushed out male like yours.

Shweet. I am so stoked I picked this guy up, he's unreal. But the adult dark mojos are the more common right? Im not asking because I want to like sell him as a special kind of mojo, I just am genuinely curious. Like the whole area behind his head and on his neck makes zero sense to me, it's almost off-white. Weird.

He looks like a nice mojo, I have seen many like yours. Like all morphs there are always going to be variations. Pictures dont necessarily capture the true colors, they always look better in person.

No I figured that much that he was just a variation, I guess Im also kinda curious as to whether his coloration is desired on a Mojo, or rather what makes a mojo a good mojo. I read the hunter's guide but the one shown is a dark mojave so I didnt know what to think of him. I choose my snakes by what is desirable to me, and his main goal in life is to produce a BEL one day. I just wanted to know if he was like a grade A mojo or if theyre even graded.

Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
Whats up with him is that He is a GREAT example of the morph.
What you see is a lot of peole buying Mojos, just to buy a mojo. They dont take into effect that crappy colored mojos make crappy colored snakes (generally speaking, always up for debate).
When you get clean animals, and breed because it is a beautiful snake, you are in fact selective breeding for that particular trait.
My mojos, have a green tint to them, with almost NO yellow.
Other mojos' have high popping yellow....but generally fade out as the baby matures.

Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
it's just how a mojo should look, unfortunately with co-doms the quality varies, especially when no thought is given to selective breeding only to producing as many as possible.

Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
What a looker! I really like the light ones like yours. Good pickup.

Those are the ones that Ive seen, the high yellow dark ones. I see some adults posted on KS that just dont look that great but I assume that's what Mojos look like with age, which is why I got all bent out of shape excited about this guy.
Would you folks say that Mojaves clean up other morphs in combos or are Mojaves the ones that get cleaned up in combinations? Im pretty one track with what I got him for, but if he can make some interesting combos along the way Id like to do that too.

Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
Pastel Mojos are a personal favorite of mine. I have not seen a Mojo Spider in person, but from the pictures I have seen, it is very subtle.

Hmm. So not like lessers or butters where they can be used a genetic powerhouse for combinations. Well, thanks for your input.

Fair enough. My person preference is not so subtle. I like colors and patterns all wild and what not. Nerd's Inferno is a perfect example of what I like. I just saw a pic of a Hypo Mojave, I think Ill head that route.

Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
Yup Hypo Mojo is on my list as well.
-
Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
You can't beat a hypo mojo. Here's our guy from Mike Cole, he's an 07 and these picures are about 6 months old.

I can't wait for hypo pastaves and hypo super pastaves, i'll be keeping my fingers crossed for them in 2010!

My pictures darken my Mojo a lot, and he looks like yours in real life, so now you have me confused again. Mine is chock full of the light yellow throughout his body, and based on your photos he has the same faded/light neck.
Anybody have a breeder size Hypo or Het Hypo Girl I can borrow for a little? :D
-
Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
He is extremely hard to photo and that is an old picture. He is also darkened a lot on a photo.
Hypo is a morph you just need. Makes for some amazing combos.
High on my list of "must produce" are hypo black pastels.
Our current hypo projects include the MOG male (mojave orange ghost), het ghost and lemon pastel het ghost girls.
This year i'd like to add a black pastel het hypo and YB het hypo females and of course I doubt i'd sell many/any mojo het hypo girls I produce.

Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
Get your ass in gear then! you have no excuse, a nice hypo can still cost $1000 a hatchling over here in the UK, you've got no excuse! :(

Hell yes I do. A JKR het pair costs enough to jump on a payment plan for. Lavender Albino > Hypo in terms of how awesome they are. I was supposed to buy a 1.1 100% Het OG Pair for a great price but the guy kinda...disappeared.

Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
my mojo is high white and yellow and shes over 1000g but hasnt browned out. here she is next to a 600+ gram lesser male

Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
They both look great. Your mojo is what I had accepted the industry norm to look like till I picked this guy up.

Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
J Kobylka? His animals are great, none of his stuff here but have a friend who has a great deal of his stuff and they all seem top notch.

Yep yep, and his customer service is just as good as the animals he sells. Totally recommend that dude to anyone for anything he's advertising.
-
Re: Whoa Mojo. Whats up with this guy?
Well I may not have bought form him myself but like I said he's had glowing recommendations and some of the animals i've seen are of amazing quality. The guy I know is a repeat customer too, I think he posts on here sometimes actually.
Actually I think the gent in question got his butter het hypo girl from Jay, and i'm obviously trying to persuade him it needs to come see my hypo mojo boy at some stage! :)

I agree, totally. We met Justin down in Daytona, and he's a really down-to-earth guy. We bought a het clown pair from him, then a few months later, we got another het clown female and a spider het hypo male. Justin's prices are very reasonable, and his animals are top notch. And, he follows up on his transactions which is something you don't get every day. The het clowns are yearlings and excellent eaters, already over 1,000 grams. Justin's blog page on his site is worth taking a look at.
