    ALBINOS
    PASTELS
    HYPOS

    BLACK HEADED BALL MORPHS
Dominant, co-dominant pattern & color mutation
New mutation, well established back striping with good side blushing and clear belly. It is unknown if there is a super form.

While they are young, they contain areas of pink; however, as the snake matures those areas turn white. It is believed that there is more than one line of Calicos. There is a continued debate among breeders as to whether this is one, or more traits
existing co-dominantly. More breeding is required to confirm or disprove this debate.

with 60+- base mutations, taking both homozygous and heterozygous morphs into account, there should be 120 factorial possible combinations.. right?

Re: Can you list bp morphs and sub morphs?
By the way, black pastel is not a form of pastel. It's allelic with cinnamon, instead.

Pastels, or "pastel jungles" come in a variety of subtle color variations such as lemon, blonde, etc.

I know there are a ton of base morphs, but I don't know them all. It's fun to see how many I can remember, though...

    Pastel jungle (blonde, lemon)
    Black Pastel
    Cinnamon
    Mojave
    Lesser Platinum
    Russo
    Hypomelanistic (Ghost--orange, yellow, green)
    Albino
    Caramel Albino
    Lavender Albino
    Piebald
    Axanthic
    Banana/Whitesmoke
    Pinstripe
    Super Stripe
    Calico/Sugar
    Genetic Stripe
    Spider
    Woma
    Tiger
    Fire
"Daddy" gene (an unexpressed gene unless paired with the right morphs--found in the original Platinum, carried by lessers and lesser sibs).
"Hidden" gene (an unexpressed gene unless paired with the right morphs--found in soulsuckers, carried by womas).
IMG (a gene that causes odd melanin variations over the course of a snake's life).

Only 24! Clearly I fail. I remember seeing others, but I can't remember their names...

Re: Can you list bp morphs and sub morphs?
Been a long time since I had any type of math but I think there should only be 1830 possible combinations when each is also allowed to breed with it's type, nowhere near in the millions with only 60 types. Maybe I'm wrong though...

Re: Can you list bp morphs and sub morphs?
If you have a snake with 50 co-dom genes in it, you would have to say 2 ^ 50 to find to amount of outcome when bred to a normal.

And that amount is big ;)

Re: Can you list bp morphs and sub morphs?
Yes but you are looking 60 snakes breeding in pairs. 1 snake breeds to 60 snakes = 60. You have 60 different snakes breeding to 60 snakes = 60 x 60. Not only that but for every iteration you have to remove one for the set that was previously done in the last iteration. It has to be different than number combinations. I think it's a little different than a 2 digit number combination which results in many many many possibilities. Now if you start looking at combo morphs with up to 60 combos bred to 60 combos then your numbers could get way up there.

Re: Can you list bp morphs and sub morphs?
    because I like arguing math:

My old post about !120 possible combinations given 60 base morphs is wrong.. I assumed !(2 x number of base morphs), given combinations for both heterozygous and homozygous expressions of the genes.. but that would only be correct if an animal could be both het and homo for the same morph (duh im stupid)

let's take a look at possible combinations if only one morph existed. Lets do albino.
    normal
    het albino
    albino
    --------
    3 possible combinations
    --------

let's take a look at possible combinations if just 2 morphs existed. For this example, I'll pick cinny and albino.

    possible combinations:

    normal
    cinny (het for cinny gene)
super cinny (homo for cinny gene)
    het albino
    albino
    cinny het albino
    cinny albino
    super cinny het albino
    super cinny albino
    ---------
    9 possible combinations
    ---------

again with 3 morphs: cinny, albino, and pastel

    normal
    cinny
    super cinny
    het albino
    albino
    pastel
    super pastel
    cinny het albino
    cinny albino
    cinny pastel
    cinny super pastel
    cinny pastel het albino
    cinny pastel albino
    cinny super pastel het albino
    cinny super pastel albino
    super cinny pastel
    super cinny super pastel
    super cinny het albino
    super cinny albino
    super cinny pastel het albino
    super cinny pastel albino
super cinny super pastel het albino
    super cinny super pastel albino
    pastel het albino
    pastel albino
    super pastel het albino
    pastel albino

    Did I get them all?
    ----------
    27 possible combinations
    ----------

Interesting.. this looks like it is going up by powers of 3..
Gawd it has been too long since I did any enumerative combinatorics, I'm busting my head right now to solve and prove how many possible combinations there are with 60 base morphs.. lol i'm such a nerd

Re: Can you list bp morphs and sub morphs?
(number of possible ways a gene can express itself)^(number of genes)???

a gene can either be expressed as heterozygous, homozygous, or not expressed at all

    3^(number of genes)

    hmmmmm
    Must..prove...WHY..

Re: Can you list bp morphs and sub morphs?
    I've got it.

You can model the morph genes contained in a ball python as such:

Imagine a combination lock, with digits labeled as follows:
(N),(N-1)...(2),(1), where N is the number of known base morphs in ball pythons

Label each morph its own distinct number, for example, pastel=1, fire=2, albino=3

Each digit can be either 0, 1, or 2, implying a gene is not expressed, heterozygous, or homozygous.

We can then describe the morph genetics of a particular snake by assigning them a multi-digit base 3 number.

A normal would be described with the multi-digit number 0,0,0,0..(0 repeating),0,0,0
A pastel would be described as 0,0,0,0..(0 repeating),0,0,1
An albino super pastel would be described as 0,0,0,0..(0r repeating),2,0,2

This base 3 combination lock N digits long is able to count all the from 0000..0 to 2222..2
Therefore the number of possible distinct numbers is 3^N.

mathpwned. A bottle of port helped, so this may not be as clean as I would have liked otherwise ;)

This is an incomplete model, but close enough to at least enumerate the number of possible combinations closely, because I am making these assumptions: I am considering all pastels the "same" gene, all BEL complex genes the "same" gene, cinny and black pastel as the "same" gene. Dominant genes such as pinstripe are allowed to be considered both heterozygous and homozygous, though visually indistinct.
