pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
which do you prefer and why?
-
Re: pythons vs. boas
Pythons.. just personal preference. There are more python species I would consider keeping than boa species I have considered.
-
Re: pythons vs. boas
Pythons i think the morphs are more appealing!!!

Re: colubrid vs. pythons and boas
Why so many similar posts?
I like them all for different reasons

Re: colubrid vs. pythons and boas
They are all cool but as pets I prefer pythons and boas.

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
pythons no question, i have two normals and love em to death never been bitten or even struck at, plus they are beautiful animals, i hope to get a spider soon. :snake:

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
That is very hard to say. There are so many different types of each. I will say that I like boas over ball pythons. Ball pythons are nice to look at, but most do not have as much of an outgoing personality as boas. I do love my green tree python though. I have never been into colubrids. Therefore, I would have to say that it is a toss-up between boas and pythons.

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
I like all snakes, though I don't want anything bigger than a ball python or a corn snake or hog nose, I am not into giant snakes FOR MYSELF as a pet. But they're amazing looking!

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
what if i like 2 equally?
Boas and pythons will always share the same place in my heart.

It's TOTALLY unfair to classify all pythons by referencing just BPs and Burms.
The great thing about pythons is they span the whole spectrum from small to big, slow to fast, skinny to fat, dumb to extraordinarily aware of their surroundings.
Ground pythons, tree pythons, semi-arboreal pythons..
Display snakes, handler snakes, breeding project snakes, pet snakes..
Pythons have the whole package.
That isn't to say that boas don't have a huge variety, but please don't classify pythons as just "BPs and burms"!!

Most popular ones then.
And this site is about BPs anyway.
So of course I'll use them.

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
Pythons are my favorite, but not ball pythons. I love all three for many different reasons but my absolute favorite are medium pythons. (8-12 ft)
Macklots are amazing, as well as carpet pythons. I love long, thinner pythons because they have a bigger appeal to me than larger boas do. I love boas, but they are much more expressive of their power (in my experience) and a bit more difficult to handle (they like to wrap and squeeze more).

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
Man that is hard...
I normally see boids most into rescue. I have worked with more python species then anything I'd have to say. I also haven't seen much of a difference in personallity between corns, kings, milks etc Now that is just my opinion on who I have worked with over my time of doing rescue. (I always love the hoggies thou).
I like boas but all I ever really see and work with are BCC & BCI's. I have loved the tree boas that I've seen and sand boas always interest me.
But I'd have to say pythons, morelia species ecspecially, would have to be my favs.
But I love the variety in the end.

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
Seriously :weirdface you posted this on BP.net  I am shocked that everyone here loves their PYTHON  more than a Colubrid or Boa
I do like my BP Simon though, he is always chill and eats like a snake possessed :taz: . My King Snake is a fussy little demented prince :omg: but I still love him very much :D
And I am getting a BRB shortly  so I will have them all :neener:
(BTW all comments in this post are meant for laughter :gj: , not malice :colbert: I am not bashing, just having some fun :8: and using every face in the list :O )

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
Pythons cause they're just so darn gorgeous.
Colubrids because the diversity is amazing and they can be pretty entertaining to watch.
I am not huge on boas but hey that could change. :)

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
All depends what you're looking for. I think python has a prettier range of species as far as morphs, colors and such, i.e. Retic, Burm. I like boas because I love the Anaconda sp. They are a beautiful species, and are gorgeous and my yellow is my world. I like colubrids because to me they have the best umm lets see how to word it... "personality?" of any snakes. I find them more active, and seeming to say a little bit more intelligent? <---I'll probably catch heat for that one.
-
you must consider with snake u prefer the most,a pet snake or display snake.if u like display snake,i suggest boa or gtp.if u want a tame snake,i prefer ball python.
-
Colubrids. Active, colorful, easy to care for, broad range to choose from.
BUT, this being a BP forum, Pythons are going to win the poll.

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
Boas all the way!! How can you call a boa a display snake and not a tame one??? I've had BP's before and boas are far superior, as long as you don't over feed and handle on a regular basis they don't get fat and gigantic and stay docile oh and they don't muddy out like most bp morphs
-
I've only ever seriously kept my ball python, so I can't really say. I mean I had a few colubrids when I was a kid, but dad took care of them, and my rat snake didn't last long enough for me to get a good idea. So i can't really say.
Appearance-wise, I gotta say BCCs, then BCI, then ball pythons, then either BRBs, MBKs, or indigo snakes. That is, the normals for all of those, no morphs.

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
Boas all the way! tame pretty and all around awesome!

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
It's really hard to choose. I keep and enjoy them all of those types of snakes. I love the color and morph variety available with corn snakes and how easy they are to care for. I am mainly a corn snake breeder and have more corns than anything else, but I don't find them quite as enjoyable to handle as boas and pythons. They don't usually bite or anything, but they always seem like they mostly want to get away from you. I also have a pair of Mexican black kings, which are gorgeous to look at, but I don't really like to handle them much, because they tend to musk a lot and also seem like they just want to get away. I really love my ball pythons and all the gorgeous morph possibilities, as well as their size and how easy they are to handle, but I have to admit I sometimes get frustrated that they go on feeding fasts. Good thing I have red tail boas and a super dwarf retic to eat up the rats that are dangled for the ball pythons and refused. Never any waste. I love that the red tail boas will eat anything you give them consistently, and they are very friendly, inquisitive and nice to handle. However their large size and girth limits me to only having three of them for now. (I'm pretty sure I will find a way to keep a super sunglow motley once I produce one, though). I think right now I would have to say that my purple albino super dwarf retic is my favorite snake. She has it all: Gorgeous bright color and interesting pattern, super easy handling and inquisitiveness, the perfect size; four feet long now, and she should not get more than about 8 feet long and never heavy-bodied. And she eats whatever I feed her every time.
The Perfect Snake (in my opinion): Purple Albino Super Dwarf Reticulated Python

I prefer Ball pythons. But if I may say I think our answers here are going to be a little bias since you posted it in the Ball Python threads. If you want a true gauge of what people think with out being bias then i would post it in General Herp. Just my opinion. But love the BPs.

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
What about cribos?
I love balls and bloods and many other pythons, but I am a boa girl at heart. Boa constrictors are big (but not unmanageable), heavy-bodied, gorgeous, and have very distinctive personalities and are usually very sweet but great feeders at the same time. Honestly, it doesn't get any better than that!

Re: pythons vs. boas vs colubrids
Pythons and im not speaking of just balls. I have always liked pythons the most, there is just something about pythons ive always liked. I do like boas and colubrids too but they don't intrigue me as much as pythons do.
