    Fat Boy Hand Update
Just wanted to update everyone on my hand. I got my prosthetic Monday and have been working with it pretty good. It is as close to my real hand as I could get. I am the only person in North Carolina with this particular hand and one of only 200 in the world. It is the newest technology called the I-Limb. Thanks to all of you who shared your thoughts and prayers during my ordeal.......Frankie

I just watched a video in the "I-limb" man that thing is cool. I got to watch a guy make coffee and even play a little grab ass with his wife..

The individual fingers moving and the range of motion is astounding.. Congrats Bro..It looks like a great prosthetic.

Yea...I have seen that video, he has the rotating wrist option. I have to wait 1 1/2 years before being allowed to get the rotating wrist. They want me to master the hand before upgrading.

Now that you're half robot, do you find yourself more attracted to things like vending machines and copy machines?

That looks incredible. You must get a TON of questions about it. I'm glad that you have been able to replace what you've lost. Good luck with the new suit in the future.

Funny you say that...until I get stronger the muscle sensors are turned up pretty high. When I walk by something that gives off any type signal...electric doors, satelite, security system, big florecent lights, my hand moves!! The signals will make it move by itself, pretty wild.

That is too amazing!! Congratulations and best of luck to you. Can't wait to see what you could do with it once you have mastered it...

Is it difficult to "learn" and how does it feel to move the hand, as opposed to your other hand? And were you planning on getting one of those "skins" or just leaving it how it is?

I can't even express how impressed I am after reading about the iLimb. Few years down the line I bet they'll improve it even more. A decade or so and you won't even know when someone has a prosthetic.

I caught on to working it in about 5 minutes. I have to use my mind to make the missing wrist move up and down, which in turn makes my forearm muscles flex. Sensors set on top of the muscles and when I flex the wrist up, the hand opens, when I flex the wrist down, the hand closes. The feel is nothing like a natural hand. I am going to get the skin glove but it takes a few monthe to make. They say it will look just like my other hand. The iLimb comes with a 3 year upgrade contract, so for the next 3 years I can upgrade free to the newest technology, who knows where they will be in 3 years!

It's just amazing what medical technology can do! Congrats on your new hand and being one of the few that have one of these. Not only are you going to see tremedous benefit from it personally but folks like you are the ones that will advance so much knowledge about how this hand really works outside the lab in real life. Good for you Frankie!
