my ups store said no live animal shipping. so the guys from shipyourreptiles told me just schedule a pickup and if they ask tell them. Beings most UPS stores are independently owned and have their own rules. So ill do Pickups to save on the headache of them opening the box.

You can also drop them off at Staples stores usually without problem.

I've used SYR for 5 shipments now, and all five have gone flawless. It's one heck of a great service. :gj:

I shipped a 5lb (actually 4.7 but you have to round up) box from CA to IL and it was $57

Saved 23.41 (thats what they tell me)

Dont know if that is true or not on the savings, but it was the exact price that I thought it was going to be.

What are their cost to ship on average? Fedex seems to run from $55 to $65 on average for priority overnight. I think high shipping costs turn some potential buyers away. Jason Bowden

hmm... more than i thought, but not a bad deal for someone that doesn't want to deal with fedex i suppose.

now that i'm actually in regular contact with my rep, i'm loving fedex.

I am gonna ship using them on Monday. My FedEx account wanted $56 and SYR quoted $40.

Basically you are getting the same discount rate as a company thats does lots of shipping.

Thanks for the positive feedback Pat. I am even more confident now:gj:

Flamethrower did not say that they open his package. They likely just asked him what's in the package, because it says Perishable on it, or because it has holes in it. A lot of UPS / FedEx drop off locations will not accept any live reptiles. I have had the same problem with drop offs, so I just have them pick up from my house, and have never had any issues. It only cost an extra $4 a package to have them pick up. I don't mind to pay the extra.

I like the fact I can also buy a shipping label for a package coming TO me. Some people raise the price for shipping, it happens, but thats just extra $$ in my pocket now. I have used it 3 times and saved almost 100 bucks.

4 times if you count the label I am buying tonight!

Pat he said he bought it to make sure of the shipping cost so as not to be overcharged by the shipper. But when I ship i charge the price of shipping the price of shipping supplies and my time to ship so that label may say 39.85 but I'm gonna charge 51.85 which will cover supplies and 3.00 for my gas these times are fierce and hell I gotta get mine.

    [QUOTE]

i have herd that some UPS stores open the packages and have sent them to animal control because they were snakes. UPS does not allow snakes of any kind to be shipped. SYR is supposed to have a account that allows snakes to be shipped but if a UPS store or Hub opens the package and doesn't know about SYR account then they will send it back or to animal control.

i think it would be a great service if they could convence UPS to change their policy but im not too sure i want to take the risk of animals being killed due to delay or sent off to animal control and have to pay a fee. im sure it is alot cheaper and everything just not worth the risk for me. im small time.

this all came from faunas BOI on them (http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...=ship+reptiles).

now, don't get me wrong, i love pro products....well products but the risk to me doesn't seem worth it.

if you'd like patt, i can also post the link of acceptable and prohibited items that UPS allows.

well i plan on using them as well, but dont like the costs of their kits, if you have a few reptiles to ship it's not saving much money casue the kit + shipping, is about the same as normal shipping was thru fedex anyway, if you guys use your own shipping means how do you do it? with live reptiles posted all around the outside or what??

    Re: ShipYourReptiles.com
most problems can be avoided if shippers would follow bill clinton's advice "don't ask - don't tell".

if you insist on following the law to the letter then you have two choices:
    A) ship airport to airport on delta dash or other airlines
    B) don't ship at all

would be nice if there were other options.robin at SYR.com told me that he hopes that UPS at some point in time will change there policy about snakes,we'll see.

Hi, you don't have to buy the kits. You can buy everything individually from SYR or from Superior Enterprises. I believe SYR drop ships from Superior anyway. The boxes say Perishable and have arrows pointing up. You do not need to write anything else on the boxes.

BTW, I have used SYR a few times now, and am very happy with their service. I recommend them to anyone shipping with UPS.

I may be mistaken but I believe you are still bound by the Lacy Act and have to put the genus and species name on the box. It need not be in huge red ink but I am almost sure it has to be on there somewhere...

Hmmm, I will have to look into that, but until I do I will not write anything on my boxes. If you do write something on your boxes, like "snake inside", then your box will be much more likely that someone will not ship your box.

I just watched the SYR video, and they say to put a live harmless reptile label on the inside of the shipping box, not on the outside. This is if for some reason UPS has to open the box, they will know that there is a reptile inside.
