Does this pose mean buisness?
I took him out for the first time after getting him 6 days ago to weigh. I picked him up w/o the glove and shortly after he got in this pose. Then I put the glove on as a precaution. He was in and out of this pose but I saw the "S" so I didnt kno what the deal was. I put him on the scale and what not and nuthin happend soooo...just figured I'd see what ur opinions were based on a photo.

Re: Does this pose mean buisness?
Not really. Sometimes they get into the s position to move, they don't get in the s position just because there gonna bite. you can usually tell when there gonna bite they will be very active and follow every single movement you make.
-
Re: Does this pose mean buisness?
An "S" does not always mean aggression, it can just be a comfortable position.
From the angle of the photo, it is hard to tell, but it looks like your snake is resting his head & neck on your hand. That seems relaxed to me. An aggressive (or fearful), ready to strike, type of S would be with the snake holding its head & neck up in the air in an S.
However, if wearing the gloves gives you confidence, there is nothing wrong with that.

Re: Does this pose mean buisness?
cool thanks for the insight...After i took the pic i was like "Damn, I would wait to take it with the glove" lol...my first bp tho so im tryna feel out his movements.

In my experience, they won't necessarily be active. However, the intensity that you are talking about with following every move is definitely right on.

ha ha that's my fault for not clarifying, by being very active i meant the following your every move not like crawling around all crazy like. mine actually just sit there wobbling following every move i make. sorry for the misunderstanding.

Re: Does this pose mean buisness?
Good lookin snake.
Don't worry about getting bit. A little guy like that wont hurt.
You will learn their behavior and not be so worried about it.

Re: Does this pose mean buisness?
I would also like to point out, that it's quicker to pull their heads in to make ball if their necks are in the S position. So, it isnt always out of aggression. :P

Re: Does this pose mean buisness?
Sorry but I had to laugh at the glove

Re: Does this pose mean buisness?
The S neck position isn't a sign they're gonna bite, especially when their heads are laying flat. Now, if they S the neck with their heads tilted up at a 45 deg angle, that could be a different strory.

Re: Does this pose mean buisness?
lol relax man, even if you do get bit it won't hurt. If he/she thinks your food and wraps around your finger (happened to me before) just run her head under water and she will let go FAST.

I got a pic of mine with her bloomers in a wad...

She never bit though. My husband just put his palm flat on top of her head then picked her right out of the tree. But man, she was ready to strike. That was after we made the mistake of giving her a bath in the bathtub and she went psychotic!

You know I really have to take exception with all these comments. What is your problem(s) with a new keeper using gloves? This is not some ego "I'm too cool for gloves" deal here folks and teasing someone over the use of gloves is, to my mind, just a bit ridiculous.
So he used gloves and you don't - big whoop. If a person feels more comfortable using a glove, or a hook or whatever and it helps them develop into a more confident person, does it help them for you all to laugh at them? Please remember that one of the goals of this site is and has always been helping newcomers to snakekeeping. Laughing at someone is NOT a very good way to achieve that.

Re: Does this pose mean buisness?
my BP hates the camera, when ever it flashes he rears up and gives it the business look. tracks it and im sure if i got closer he would strike it for sure.... he has NEVER gone to a strike posture with me though. just hates that damn camera like no tomarrow.

I don't think anyone really meant anything malicious by it, and honestly, I have to admit to having laughed at first too after reading the title and then seeing the image.

Re: Does this pose mean buisness?
None of my balls have ever struck at me. But since i just got a GTP i am now learning very quickly what the "business pose" looks like. lol.

However you choose to react is your choice. When a member chooses to post their reaction, they leave themselves open for comment. I chose to make my comment and it stands as my opinion on this sort of reaction to newcomers.

Thank You!
Guys, I have a little bitty 251 gram Cinny that I use gloves for when I handle him. He's a very skittish little guy, and repeatedly bites me anytime I have to do tub maintenance. Of the five BP's we currently own, he's the only one who thinks he's a Black Mamba.
I use the gloves not because I think he'll hurt me with his 251 grams of fury, but simply because after 10 hits while trying to change his water, it just gets old after a while.

Re: Does this pose mean buisness?
I just picked up a boa, she has bitten me twice now and htis is her business pose lol

You're welcome, Slim. :)
As for me, I keep gloves in the top drawer of my supplies desk. I use them when I consider it prudent to do so regardless of the species or size of the snake I'm dealing with. I've been bit and it's no biggie with the snakes I own but on occasion the gloves serve a good purpose and get the job done more efficiently for me than a bare hand approach.

Altho I only have the one BP, which she has struck at me a few times but never made contact.
When I think she means buisness, I tend to reach down carefully and stroke her back, and see how she reacts to that. 9 times out of 10 she relaxes and all is well.

That just sounds adorable. Probably won't be as adorable in a year if he doesn't grow out of it, but right now it sounds adorable. lol
