    Names
Well another thread gave me this idea, for all of those who name their BPs.

What are the names of your snakes?
How do you pick a name?

    I'll go first:
Our first normal BP is Marie Lavoux, nammed after a voodoo queen, and one of the cool older songs I like.
I have another girl who's name is Hot Coco, because she has no black on her, just all coco brown.

I still have 2.3 to name, and I don't know what to name them. As all of our snakes are pets first, the need names. They all have numbers in the tracking software, just for future breeding perposes.

My first snake is named after a dead architect, and my other snake and mice are named after battlestar galactica characters. I am a nerd. A lot of people use mythological names if they have a lot of animals (for consistencies sake)

To be honest, I still haven't named my little normal male, but I kinda like it that way, hes just the little guy, and thats how I refer to him.

My "big guy", my BCI I call V, because he has that little mustache marking that resembles the character from V for Vendetta.

I've always been in love with Ancient Egypt, as well as other ancient civilizations on a smaller scale ;) So all of my snakes initially started out with Gods and Goddesses from the Egyptian pantheon, and I've kind of mixed in a few Greeks as well.

My 1st bp is named after a botched heirloom tomato label.

My sister's husband is a farmer and one year they grew some heirloom tomatoes. One of the types was supposed to be labeled Mr. Stripey. Instead the label at the market was Mr. Stippey.

Loved the name, so I kept it for him.

My JCP is called Monty for no reason (NOT Monty Python).

My normal BP is named Caesar, because BPs are called Royal Pythons because legend has it that Cleopatra wore them around her arms, and Caesar and Cleopatra had a thing going on.

My albino BP is named Apollo, because he is the god of the sun, and my Albino has bright yellows on him.

    Re: Names
Sometimes I try to pick funny/interesting/unique names but I usually pick a name as a reference to something I love or have a strong interest in and that seems to be what the majority of people here seem to do. THink of movies, music, books, or other things that interest you and try to find something from that ,to use as a name.

WHen i am starting to think about buying a pet, before I even get it i start to just think of possible names, then write ones down that I like and then choose from the list. I usually have long lists, but I always find just a couple always stick out more.

I would recommend choosing from something that you Love and have loved for a long time, not just a recent or spur of the moment interest. Example - if you wanna name it after acharacter in a movie, choose a movie you and loved for years, not one you just saw recently and think is awesome. Human opinions can change fast so just becasue you saw a movie last week and thinks it is the best movie ever, you might not feel that way next year. Rememebr that the name you choose has to last for years and years, so pick it from a strong long lasting interest, not just some fly-by interest.

I am a bit of a comic geek and have loved comics for years and have not thought in stopping any time soon so I named my snake Daken after, wolverines sons name. Other options I was looking at were Ampersand(another comic reference) or LaFours(Movie Mallrats. I am a huge kevin smith fan). When ever I thought of the snake I caught myself calling it Daken in my head too, so I figured it was a sign.

It is a snake so at first I wanted a tough but funny name like Uppercut or Zombie Hunter, or Staypuff Mashmallow-Snake, but I realized I have to live with this snake for 20 plus years and thought I might not find those names as cool in a decade or two so I went with a name from something I loved. I choose Daken because I thought it sounded tough but was also a reference to one of my interests.

I also actually did a poll on facebook for my friends to ask what they thought would be better between Daken, Ampersand , and LaFours. Everyone but two people chose Daken, so I saw taht as another sign.

After writing this, I now feel that I might put a lot more into naming my pets then I reeally should.LOL. But then again, I gotta live with these names for years to come so mabey it is worth all the effort to find the perfect name. When i get a kid I hope the nine months will give me enough time to think of a name.

I have only owned the one snake. My most recent Hampster names have been. Current one - Zombie(I love Zombies). DragonSlayer(I thought it would be funny to give a hamster a tough name. And Mouse(again a comicbook reference, but also thought it was funny because it is a hamster not a mouse. So times I just like to pick names so that when I tell them to people I get a look on there face like "Why the hell would you name it that?"

For the most part, I try to produce themes when naming mine, but most of the time its alil too hard for me, not the best when it comes to naming. For the most part, their names (especially my bps) usually just randomly pop up.
    BPs:
Spike - female normal - named after my first pet reptile (Iguana RIP)
Al - Male Het Albino - Al = albino
Maiya - Reduced Normal Female - Just like the name, plus it fits her.
Oddball - Female - Got her name from her crazy busy pattern.
Juno - Normal Female - Didn't name her after the movie, but after the Roman Goddess, who is the evuilavent to Herra.
Lucian & Lilith - brother and sister normals - named after characters in my two favorite sci-fi movies.
Gizmo - Spider - Named for being crazy.
Brom - Black Pastel - Named after the artist Brom
Normal - Pos. Het Pied - Named after the artist Norman Rockwell
    Others:
Darwin - Honduran Milksnake - Named after Charles Darwin
Razor - SD Retic - Got the name from how his pattern looks.
Rocket - SD Retic - She is lighting fast!
Hades - Female BCI - Evil I tell you! lol :P
Ginger - Female Corn Snake - Name inspired by the movie Ginger Snaps.

    Update to our pets:

The new Normal female we got today is Athena after the Roamn goddess of wisdom, war, the arts, industry, justice and skill. She was the favorite child of Zeus.

We have reserved the name Archimedes for a Pied we plan to get in the future. Even though Archimedes was a real man and not a god, he discover Pi R2 and the name is a natural fit. ;)

    Re: Names
All of our ball pythons have either celtic or gaelic names. We generally pick the name based on some characteristic of the snake or how we got that snake, etc. Some examples would be:

Brannagh which means "dark beauty". When we took her in she was a nutso snake. About 1900 grams, unknown history and so out of whack that the pet store employees were scared to even try to feed her (she'd been found abandoned in a box left in front of this small private pet store's door). She was gorgeous but very "dark" in personality LOL. She's a big 3,000+ gram female now and lovely to handle.

Cara which means "friend" was a gift from my dear friend Robin.

Saoirse, whose name means "freedom", came to us as a non-eating wild caught adult (likely imported gravid). Very skinny, non-eating, a healing would, absolutely terrifed of people. She's a lovely female now whose quite comfortable with handling and one of our favorites. Her name, for us, honors her beginnings in the wild.

The milksnake and the boas we have are named basically whatever we feel like and don't follow this theme.

    Re: Names
Cool thread JamieLynn :) I'll play....

My first BP was specifically chosen as a male so I could name him Alice after Alice Cooper. Only you old folks like me will know who that is and why I named a male snake Alice. Of course, a boa constrictor would have been more appropriate, but I didn't want such a big snake for my first.

My second BP was sort of a rescue from Craigslist who already had a name, Charger. The girl said her favorite football team was the San Diego Chargers. I then discovered he was actually a she, but just didn't feel like changing her name...it seemed kind of generic anyway.

JamieLynn...this is for you...I bought my first BCI at the NARBC two weeks ago. I wanted a female so I could name her after Marie Laveaux (I'm from Louisiana) and I thought it was perfect for a snake (got the Bobby Bare tune on my iPod :D ) Now this poor little snake was popped AND probed at the show, but first vet visit revealed her to be a him :O ! Well...I ended up changing Marie's name to the male name I already had picked out for my FUTURE male boa...Vincent. Of course, Alice Cooper's REAL name is Vincent Furnier....

    So there you have it...

Glad someone else knows who Marie Laveau is and hope someone knows who Alice Cooper is...otherwise, I'm REALLY old and uncool :rolleye2:
