Ball pythons naturally live in termite mounds which do a very good job of keeping a stable temp.
No night drops needed. Why make it more difficult then it needs to be?

Re: night time heating
let me know if this is ok at night i have the hot side around 85 with a basking spot around 90 and the cool side around 80
during the day i try to manage the warm side around 90 with a basking around 95 with a cool side about 85
are these ideal temps

Re: night time heating
"Ball pythons thrive at ambient temperatures of 80-85*F during the day and will tolerate 78-80*F at night. Additionally ball pythons will utilize a basking area of 88-95*F, which should cover one-quarter to one-third of the enclosure" --Source: Ball Pythons in Captivity by Kevin McCurley; p. 12
I don't think anyone else here would have more experience with these critters than that man....

Can't you just keep them the same during the day and at night?

Oh. Well just try to keep a hot spot of 90-94 and ambients at 80-85 and thats fine. Try not to make it hotter than 95 though. As for the ambient, don't let it drop below 75. There is a little wiggle room so you should be fine.

Since you are using lamps, its a bit debatable. I would personally put the probe on top of the substrate on the hot side (you can call it a basking spot, but they don't really bask). Then you will set the thermostat at 90-94 to get your hot-spot temp. This is the most important temp because it helps them to properly digest their food. While the others are also important, they can be more forgiving.

Re: night time heating
Honestly at night I don't even keep a warm side. I just let the ambient temps run for the night time. Been doing it for five years like that and never had a problem.

They live buried up in holes in the ground so not much of a temp change.

The one and ONLY reason to have a night drop is to induce breeding.
