Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
Sorry if the title makes it sound like I'm asking for free snakes, that isn't the case :P
But I would give friends and family of mine snakes for free (well I'd probably make them give me a hundred bucks so I could get them a basic setup, but the snake would be free, lol). But is there anyone else here who would do that?

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
Will and have. I've given away a couple already, and I have a few males still up.
I do make sure they have a proper set up, and keep up on the snake.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
Been there... done that. :)

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I would have no problem giving a snake to a friend or family, as long as I was confident that they had a good set up and new how to take care of it. And with the understanding that if for any reason they could not continue to care for it that I would like to have the option to take the snake back before they sold or gave it away.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I have. I had a couple of males that I found very good homes for. I would do it again as long as I know they are going to be well taken care of.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
Agree, I gave one away yesterday as a matter of fact. Then before I left he gave me one. No it wasn't a trade, didn't mean to leave with another lol. I knew it was going to a good home and it was something that wasn't in any projects I had going at the moment.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
Dangit.
Yes, and I already have.
Actually got a few people on the forum to learn more as well!
YAY! :D

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
Ive gotten free snakes from people here!!!!!! :D
Ive also given snakes to people for free, and plan on doing so this season.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I've given away dozens of babies! As long as the person proves they are a loving and responsible home, I'm all for giving away babies. :)

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
i gave my brothers balls before...
-
Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
i gave away my only male i produced last year it was a normal. some happy grandson got a snake from his grandpa with a proper setup.
-
Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I give all of my normals away male or female. Sometimes if I am lucky I can trade them to a local rodent breeder for a small rat but sometimes I can't even get that. I am hoping to produce almost no normals within the next 2-3 years.
-
Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I would definately consider giving male normals away to newbees to herping. A great way to help build the hobby if you think about it. A lot of people get hooked buying their first male ball python from a pet store for a rediculous price. Then they come here and feel silly at the price they paid for a normal. Regardless of that the normal is what got them hooked and now they are buying low end morphs and some even start with high end morphs. (Our second snake purchase was a female bumble bee.) Regardless of what they get interested in it all helps the hobby.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I gave away Odysseus(my normal male) to my one-day-nephew. He's been dying to have snakes, and the kid's ridiculously intelligent. I made him write a promissory note stating that if his room wasn't clean, I would take Ody away. His mom loved that clause. ^_^
He got a full set-up for free too, which I think definitely made them all happy. I go and check on Ody every few weeks, too. I'm so proud of him. He's such a great kid, and Ody's so easy-going. His sister has a tegu too. I converted them. ^_^

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I look at my current and future hobby breeding projects as something that has an overall goal; which is to, 1) year-by-year, breed and produce variations of morphs that I enjoy, and 2) sell whatever does not fit into my plans (or my tub space)...
...With that said, there always seems to be "an extra snake" that I can give away, with the only condition that I know (as much as anyone can know) that it will be taken well care of.
In fact, I have recently given away male and female normals, each to different friends of mine, including full tank setups with all the goodies.
Would I give away a morph? That might be a different story, but I would consider it for the right person, whom I would have to know well.

Hey thats what i did!
I got hooked too, only the pet shop sold me a girl. When I do start breeding I would gladly give some away to someone who would love and care for it.
When I tell people I have a BP most say "ewww" but a few start asking questions, I will point them here and tell them all the things you learn.
After a 4 hour dicussion with a friend of my husband and me, and his wife. (he likes snakes and wants one but she has only heard the horror stories) They have asked me to "hold one back" when I do start breeding.
As long as they are willing to buy the proper setup and show me its all ready, the will get the surprise that the baby they get is free.:D

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
Fully intend to do so. :) In fact, I already have two people who want one of the future little ones from my breeders...and to one couple the snake will be free even though it will be a het. They don't know this now though :D

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I've always been a fairly generous giver, so I usually end up giving away all sorts of things. I try and take good care of my friends.
-
Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
You want to give me some balls? that's great I'll tell you where to send them lol! If they were corn snakes I'd say give me a few dozen they are so easy to care for. Both my girls ate as soon as they came home!
-
Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I will probally give one of my first snakes that I will have hatched to a friend of mine. He's like a brother to me and will come over and check Dante out every time he comes over. My family really doesn't mind snakes except one aunt.
-
Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I said no, but if I know that they would be a good keeper and have really wanted one, yes.
-
Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I said no because I expect something. Not always money but they must show me they can care for them I just gave away 2 torts last month but drilled the poor guy on how they would be cared for. Had him do research work before I considered placing them. He also had to buy supplies for them.
At the other extreme, if I feel someone is not a good home I won't sell no matter what. I actually had someone get angry with me because I was given a snake that he knew I was working on placing. I refused to even sell it to him at a good price. Too many times this person told me of snakes or lizards dying in his care for any number of reasons. Whether I bought the snake or it was a rescue it doesn't deserve to be put in a bad situation.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I am new to the hobby and know how tough it is to get started. If I was breeding I would definantly give them away to help some one who wants to get started. But again this is not a business venture for me so I can afford to give them away. But I am not breeding anything so maybe in the future.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I have given away snakes for free. And I have had people offer or give me snakes for free.
-
Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I gave my younger (18 year old) brother a baby bloodred corn snake. I only paid $20 for him at an expo and my brother was always admiring my snakes, especially my corn, so I decided to give him the little guy (along with the tank, heat pad and access). I gave him a good lesson in snake care though and I still supervise the feeding, cleaning etc but he's doing very well :)
I don't think I would ever just give one away to a complete stranger though

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I'm giving one to my GF's daughter for her birthday...I bought it from some one else though...does that still count?
-
Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I said no because I've never produced anything to give away lol. I would do so given proper husbandry and such no problem. Also to hear that most of you would/have given away a snake tells loads about this community:gj: --Josh

I agree. Reading through I see you all are about spreading the ball python love. On some other sites I have met some people that are all about the money but not here on BP.net. You guys are all great!

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I have and would do it again. I also have on some occassions rescued some from non-optimum conditions, rehabbed, and re-homed some too. It's a great feeling when you know they're going to a good home.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I have recieved free (Oakley) adn that's how this passion has started. Ashtin and I wish to breed Oakley and Hissy once they are of age and weight and will more than likely end up giving a few away to close family/friends.
I actually have a close friend that wants a rat once we start breeding them. He goes to school at UT and was asking if he would be able to keep one in his dorm unnoticed, I told him of course he could, just put it where it couldn't be seen when he wasn't playing with it and he could even do the same with a ball, plenty of room under a dorm room bed. lol. I'd imagine he will want a ball when we breed.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
I only have one snake... So no, I wouldn't give one away. If I was a breeder and I had a lot of babies, I'd give some away for free to those I knew would take great care of them.
I'd take a free snake though. XD I couldn't say no.

I bet I can guess who you bought it from :D

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
In some cases. I can forsee being swamped by house snake babies in a year and I may give some away to family and friends.
-
Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
Sure why not. I can only house so many snakes. At some point normal males have to go. Seems silly to ask someone the Petco going rate for normals when I have plenty.
-
Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
When I start my breeding I will definitely be giving away some snakes.
I received two Het Albino's from a friend of mine. So since I was shown some love I got give it to some one else right.!?

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
i have given them away but only after they proven they got all the stuff. i also recieve a lot of rescues and most of them wil be given away. (most people who but a snake end up taking home almost the entire fee (i charge for adioption in supplies (flexwatt, frozen food and such also with my contact info to get up wth me if they need help anytime.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?
