Just when you get lax... a snake tries to bite you in the face. :)
I was logged off for the night and was checking water dishes before bed.

My WC Katherine was busy busy busy... and I can see her lower jaw is looking dark.

I wonder if it is newsprint, rub, or something else.

This snake is very timid... but on occasion I get complacent because she is so timid.

I reach in, take her in hand... hold her up the light... and am kind of turning her around in my hand trying to get a better look at her chin.

Suddenly in slow motion... she darts out and I can see it like a bad Matrix remake. Full open 180 degree open face coming at me, I pull a Keanu and turn just enough and she just grazes me.

Had I not moved she would have hit me right between the eyes.

Of course as it is happening I am completley calm. I do not react, I do not drop her, I am the poster child of preparedness... then I put her down, leave the room, and go to light a smoke and what do you know...

... my hands are shaking. :)

Amazing the reflexes we develop isn't it?

My one snappy girl Linda has trained me well.

That and dodgy baby BPs this season heightened my spidey senses. :)

Mad skills darlin'. -Grins.- My het. albino male has me trained well to watch him. I get so complacent with Ophi that I don't think. I need a few more snakes like him to wake me up some times. ^_^

    Glad you didn't get tagged.

I've only been tagged by a BP once. And it was completely my fault. My old BP, Tutankhamun was a full throttle, full grown adult male in shed at the time. Having raised him since a baby I had grown complacent and the thought of using feeding tongs was unheard of. I held the rat by hand as usual and I guess with his lack of eyesight at the time (what about those pits??) he completely missed the rat and went full force into my cheek. Hurt like a SOB but I managed not to pull back or freak out. Was pretty funny actually. Hurt my pride more than anything else. Luckily, no one was there to witness it. Don't ask why my face was so close to the enclosure. Needless to say, I now use tongs for all my big boys/girls. As for my RTB's, that's a different story.. I expect to be tagged by all of them at some point.

It's the element of surprise that gets me every time...I've been carrying around a Bite Me sign since I was a child...seems like every time I let my guard down my snakes give me a little reminder...last year my buddies retic got a taste of my leg which made me really appreciate the fact that my biggest snake at this time is a BP :P .

 that's pretty much what I did when I got bit....after the panick subsided, I was very anxious to find out how to get the 15 Ft retic's mouth off my leg and fast...and wasn't getting much help from my buddy who couldn't stop laughing.

We are going to have another look tonight when I change out her tub. I think it is newsprint... but it could just be "BRUCE BAIT!!!".
