depeneding on size I use a 32qt rack system, my big 07 has his own tub while my smaller 07's share a split tube using the RBI dividers. my 08 babies use smaller iris 16 qt tubs. I thin kthey are 16.... not sure well hope this helps.

it depends on the size of the snake...people have already given you good answers.

As a rule of thumb, hatchlings are good in 6 qts, up to 12-18qts when they get into being a juv, then up to a 28 or 32, then bigger for monster males or females.

are you talking tanks or tubs? i would assume if you were talking about tubs then you could just find the longest tub you could and split it up. i don't think the height would really matter.

Full grown balls do quite well in a 3x2x1 (LxWxH) cage :)
    Is this what you're asking?

What type of enclosures? Glass aquariums, AP style enclosures, tubs? The easiest way in my opinion would be to get something like this that is 96 quarts that could be split into 3-32 quart homes that would last them their whole lives. And you could always get a long strip of flexwatt to use as a UTH and the heat shoud, ideally, be the same in each tub.

    Re: ideal cage size
oh, gotcha. in that case I would assume Starmom has the right idea. You could always take the dimensions for a 30 long since those are the recommended tank sizes for a full grown one. 30 Long dimensions are roughly 4 x 1.5 x 1 (l x w x h).

Yes- I have the right idea ;)

I have a two 3-stacks of RBI cages: 3x2x1. They even have a RHP in each and the height is still fine :)

wouldn't be too hard. Jut use something to frame it up and get the plexiglass cut to the correct lengths and heights, mount them on the front with hinges and cut holes in them or something for a way to lock them. Use flexwatt for heating and viola, you have 3 separate enclosures that are all stacked together.

I've read a bunch of people really like 4x2x2 but you could always trim some off of the height depending on how much you're snake climbs, if at all, etc. I'm personally in the process of building a 4x2x2 for a friend. His BP likes to climb for whatever reason so we're making it a little taller for extra branches, plants, etc.

So, I guess just triple that height if you wanna stack them all on top of eachother.

my pastel loves to climb so im thinkin of all three 4x2x2, with space between each cage for dome fixtures and etc.

Mine loved to climb when they were younger; now, not at all.

Please keep in mind that ball pythons are terrestrial snakes and can do a surprisingly good job at falling off of things and hurting themselves ;)

I would research this thoroughly... heat rises, as does humidity under a dome light. If you are going to stack these enclosures and use the type of heating that people use with glass enclosures you are going to have some huge fluctuations in heating and humidity.

Why are you not using UTH heat if I can ask?

As far as Ideal Cage Size... to go back to your original post.

IMHO 4x2x2 is far too large for a BP.

Can I assume that you have kept your snakes in tanks?

It seems like the sizes you are suggesting are all tank sizes.

make sure your BP's are big if are doing something that size and not babies, they will be overwhelmed and stressed.
