Leo morphs....holy crap!!!
i have been thinking about getting into leos but im not sure where to start. i got one for my wife a long time ago and it unfortunitly died. that was like 8 years ago and i wouldn't mind getting into them. the only problem is there are so many morphs out there (well probably not as many as the ball pythons) that im not sure what makes what and well what is what??!?!? are there any good websites out there that goes over them all? like RAPTOR APTOR, bell, mack i have not idea what any of it means!!!
i know one thing. i like that ones that are all white with no pattern.....blazing blizzard i think. and the tangerines i get cause they all orange. but carrot tails look like normals to me......ugh!!

I hear ya there man. I had a few leos years ago, just normals and now I'm thinking about getting back into them but I haven't got the first clue where to start!

Re: Leo morphs....holy crap!!!
yeah like what makes what?!? like with BPs you take a pastel cross to a spider and bam bee (well you hope at least!). but with these.....i don't know where to start!! albinos are easy of course. you need hets and breed those together and then you get albinos but there are like 3 types!
thanks for the link!

Re: Leo morphs....holy crap!!!
We're going into our second season of breeding Leos and I still can't get a handle on the genetics. Admiteddly I suck with genetics but with Balls I am pretty solid. Leos are a whole different ballgame. I suggest you read up and buy the ones you like and enjoy the looks of. Just like with any other animal you intend to keep and maybe breed, you will be spending a lot of time cleaning/feeding/etc.

Re: Leo morphs....holy crap!!!
Giant are really cool but their bites HURT!!! A female is even bigger then a normal sized male. Carrot tails have a lot of orange around the base of the tail and carrot heads have orange spots on the head.

Re: Leo morphs....holy crap!!!
Here's what I did to start.
I fell in love with Enigmas, and the other prettiest baby at the show was definitely the tiny Bell Albino.
So, I have a Female Enigma het. Bell Albino..

And a Female Bell Albino.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...tal22/leo1.jpg
I got those for less than 50 dollars together.
And, When it's time. I will look at a male that's possibly a Blizzard Het. Albino.
Or maybe something else that would work better, but the point is, I started with a bit of variability amongst things I could breed. Both have the albino strand, so both could produce some potentially cool things.

Re: Leo morphs....holy crap!!!
Leopard geckos (and ball pythons, and corn snakes...) are so addictive due to the wonderful variety of morphs!! Here's a list of the more common morphs for you:
Recessive:
Tremper albino
Bell albino
Rainwater albino
(these 3 are not compatible - breed a Tremper to a Bell and you get normal, double het offspring)
Patternless
Blizzard
Eclipse (solid black eyes in a non-albino, solid red in an albino - sometimes the eyes are not 100% solid. This is called snake eyes and is a random occurrence)
Codom (incompletely dominant)
Mack Snow
Hypo - very few spots on body (super hypo = no spots) Some hypos are line bred.
Giant - giants are overall longer geckos that can pack on additional grams due to length. They are often long and lanky as young geckos. There is discussion over whether this is really a single gene trait at all.
Dominant
Enigma
Polygenic traits
Tangerine - varying amounts of orange body color
Carrot tail - technically no spots in the deep orange at the base of the tail, although many people use it to refer to any amount of orange in the tail.
Stripe / jungle - Stripe seems to work like a recessive trait most of the time, but is likely controlled by multiple genes.
Most of the other names are simply combinations:
Blazing blizzard = albino (usually Tremper) + blizzard
RAPTOR = Tremper albino + Eclipse + "patternless stripe"
APTOR = same as above without eclipse eyes
This is certainly not a complete list (especially where the combos come in - Leopard gecko wiki has most of them listed) but it should get you started. Eventually, I'll add a morph page to the genetics section of my website, but I just haven't gotten it done yet. Hope this helps!

Re: Leo morphs....holy crap!!!
I know how it is. I've got a patternless albino female who just reached breeding size, and now I want more! I may just have to wait for a show, though, because shipping costs scare me!

I'll be vending at the Super Show in San Diego in June (and San Francisco in May, but that's probably too far north for you)! There should be lots of other gecko vendors as well - you should be able to find what you're looking for! :)

Leo morphs....holy crap!!!
vmsherp.com has all the info you need. as far as genetics go. theres always new morphs being produced so its hard to keep up with the latest. Go with Snow Blizzard. They are solid color, and have pitch black eyes. Mines weighs 110 grams. I am breeding him with a Giant Blazzing Blizzard Trempor Albino. Which will give me 50% SNow blizzards het for tremper albino and 50% blizzards het tremper albino. I chose a Giant female in order to add more size to the babies. Maybe One out of couple of eggs she hatches will come out a Giant as well. Bu not guaranteed. But the Female is 92 grams and 10 inches. So shes a big girl. and Hes almost 11 inches. I am trying to create the first Super Giant Snow Blizzard. Will take some time. But I am in no rush.

Leo's are no worse the ball python's. I actually find leo's much easier to work with. If anyone has any questions about leo morphs please feel free to PM me and I will answer your questions. It's actually not as crazy as it seems at first.

getting started with leos
Hi guys... ive been breeding leos for a while and they are so much fun and exciting to hatch! you never know what you are gonna hatch until you see them! What to get into depends mainly on what you like... before getting into buying any.. do a lot of research on morphs because its such a crazy world of morphs and stuff you have to be clear on what to collect.... My first leopard gecko ever was a super hypo... i bought it without even knowing that morphs existed! after looking at morphs and genetics i bought a tremper albino het for diablo blanco( also called chocolate albino which lacks any melanine(black pigment) and has a jungly chocolate coloured pattern as well as some lavender spots, and i also bought a super hypo tangerine carrot tail baldie. These are kinda common morphs which in spain look nothing like morphs in the US.. In the US you guys actually have tangerine tornado morph that is a very intense orange colour nearly red thats just awsome! Then shortly after that i bought my first RAPTOR. RAPTOR means Ruby Eyed Paternless Tremper ORange.... and is a huge combination of morphs! it lacks any pattern as it has a patternless gene, its orangy colour, it has the eclipse gene which makes its eyes be solid, and maybe the most distinctive sign is its fully red eyes! My RAPTOR is het for diablo blanco... DB is a completely white leopard gecko with ruby eyes! its awsome! So to create it i bought a blazzing blizzard het diablo blanco....and i hope to be producing them soon! The last purchase i made was a NOVA!! a nova is a enigma raptor! fortunately it has not got the enigma syndrome. Enigmas for sure are very fancy... but when buying them you have to be careful for it not to have the syndrome...and if it has it... not breed it in order to not make it appear in its babies.
