New pastel coming.
This girl is supposed to arrive on Wednesday AM. Can't wait! She's gonna make some pretty bees when paired with my spider in a few years.

How old is she,who is the breeder?

Re: New pastel coming.
She's only about 200 grams. I bought her from Allen of big daddy's wholesale. I'll post better pics when she arrives.

I hope you're doing a thorough quarantine with her. There's been some scary talk floating around about him that makes it worth being extra careful.
Purdy girl.

Re: New pastel coming.
Wow. She's so very bright and vibrant. Quarantine's great no matter what.

Re: New pastel coming.
:mad:Yikes! I usually check that boi before purchasing an animal online, but this time I was so stoked to find a female with that coloration that I just jumped on it. Too late now. If half of that post is true, it makes me sick that I am supporting such a horrible operation. There are a couple local shops here in FL that I refuse to support due to the conditions thier herps and feeders are kept in. She will definitely be going to the vet and be kept in a different room than the rest of my collection. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: New pastel coming.
OK, I just finished reading over 100 pages of posts on that BOI. Both incidents were in 2006, and it appears Allen has law enforcement regularly visiting his facility to check on it's cleanliness since the incident occurred. Also, no complaints about IBD since then. She will still go to the vet and be quarantined, and I wouldn't have bought the snake knowing what I know now, but I feel a little better since it appears he has cleaned up his act somewhat since 2006.

You kidding? He tried to dump his entire business a couple weeks ago. Myself and a few BP.netters were at a local show this weekend and his animals didn't look all that great....

Hey, he knows to QT the animal, let's stop bringing him down. Looks like beautiful snake and from the picture, looks pretty healthy. You probably have that feeling in your stomach like "I hope I made the right decision". You did, if they're really that bad, then you saved a BP, and that would make anybody else here happy.
So be happy for what you're getting, she looks amazing.
:salute:

Re: New pastel coming.
Does anyone have a pic of this guy? I am at the Bham show almost every month and have no clue who he is. At least a description.
-
Re: New pastel coming.
Dan, yes I have that feeling in my stomach right now. Serves me right for pulling the trigger so quickly. I've been looking for a really yellow pastel for a while and haven't seen anything but dirty looking tan ones for sale, so I got a little trigger happy when I saw this one on KS. I hope she is healthy.
-
Re: New pastel coming.
Quarantine and vet visits. I recommend a 30 to 90 day stay in the other end of the house if possible. If she is a carrier for IBD it will transfer to all other snakes in your home without proper care. It looks pretty healthy though so maybe you got a winner. Pastels are my favorite.
-
Re: New pastel coming.
She won't be going anywhere near my other snakes for at least a year. Why would I even consider it? She won't be ready to breed for longer than that. She will get an initial vet visit, plus a followup screening when she reaches breeding size.

Re: New pastel coming.
Keeping an infected animal in the same room can kill a whole collection. I didn't mean physical contact. There's a post about it in Iherp answers.
-
Re: New pastel coming.
I am aware of that, I stated in a earlier post that she will be kept in a different room. Thanks for the heads up though.:)
-
Re: New pastel coming.
BTW, there is a description of the aforementioned person in the BOI, 6 ft, heavyset, glasses. In case you want to watch out for him at the shows.

I'm not bringing anyone down, I'm simply stating the truth.

Re: New pastel coming.
Thanks for the heads up. I know 2 guys who sell total crap that fit that description. Show is this weekend, If I see him I'll keep everyone posted.
If it is the guy I'm thinking it is he was selling a WC scrub with horrible nose rub issues. The nose had no scales up to behind the nostrils. I feel bad posting that just because it might not be him. If you're going to the dixie show PM me at any time and we can meet up. I'd be more than happy to tell you the shady characters as I call them out each month.

Re: New pastel coming.
Aaron, I hear you 100%. I am not in any way condoning this guy or recommending him, I in fact feel sick to my stomach. I was just relieved about not having found a complaint about IBD since the 2006 incident.

It isn't IBD, it's the general care he takes of his animals, which is poor.

Its just pretty sick when you cant talk with so much snuf in your mouth. And acutally I do care, so did a few other people at the show with kids.

There is nothing wrong with dip, :) I dip..

Re: New pastel coming.
When dealing with Big Daddy, I just hope you get the BP in the picture. I understand you've already entered into a deal with this guy, but be careful. You could write book with the shaddy stuff this dude has pulled.

If your trying to sell for your buisness, with 100s of people around, and you already have a horrible rep, do you still dip there?
-
Re: New pastel coming.
Let's try to loose the dip discussion. No one is saying a tobacco habit is wrong, however it was just an easy way of identifying the guy. Do Ron and Tim attend the Dixie show? If you hit the link this guy pedals out of SC as well so just for clarification.
There's a guy who sells crap snakes at the Dixie show then a guy who sells crap and snakes. Maybe this is Ron and Tim?

Re: New pastel coming. Arrived OK.
She arrived today and appears to be OK. Moves around normally and has no problem flipping over when I try to turn her over, in fact it is difficult to turn her over. She rights herself in midair. Looks like she could use a big meal, but I was informed she was being shipped on thier feeding day and so she'd arrive on empty. She's going to the vet regardless, just in case. Here's a better photo I just snapped. No complaints about her color.

Re: New pastel coming. Another pic
She is also 70 grams heavier than I was originally told. She weighs in at 270.

Maybe it has to do with the lighting, but I think you're right on here. Either way, the snake looks awesome. I love the dots on it's back coming down it's spine from the head.
I want one to breed with my spider maybe someday down the road.
-
Re: New pastel coming.
The dots on the neck are awesome, as for color change, how long ago was that original brighter pic taken ? I know MY pastel is brightest right after a shed and slowly dulls till the next shed than just as bright all over again, that second pic looks like my pastel when he dulls out, and even still it's a beautiful pastel... I wouldn't put it past this guy altering a picture, but there's too many variables such as lighting, shed cycle, ect. Either way you got what you paid for, seems healthy, very pretty... Chalk it up as a win on a gamble...
-
Re: New pastel coming.
Hope she does well for you.
-
Re: New pastel coming.
It's either the camera or a contrast touch up, both those snakes are the same. Look at the blushing inside the black, there's a big blush follow by a tiny dot over thickest part of it's belly which is what is best shown in both pics. There are also 5 consecutive dots leading towards the tail and a donut right before it, it's the same snake for sure.
I do think he might have touched up the contrast maybe in Photoshop but the snake is the same, the yellow definitely looks alot more vivid in his ad photo.

Look what happens when I turn up the saturation just a smidge:

It wouldn't surprise me a bit. To be fair, my doctored photo is closer to how the snake actually looks in person, but I would rather have the advertiser post an unaltered photo and be pleasantly surprised when I receive the snake. My photo was taken outdoors in the shade, the ad looks like it was taken indoors with a flash, it's hard to say. I am very happy with the color of the snake though. It is the brightest colored pastel I have seen in person, and I've seen quite a few.

Re: New pastel coming.
Nice Pastel! :) Hopefully all checks out fine!
Goodluck!
As long as you're happy, it's all that matters when it's your own pet.
Atleast it's the same one in the initial picture..
Cheers
