What to get next...
As you all know (if you've read my profile) one of my hobbies is Replica Sword collecting. There was a long list of things I liked, but I've finally narrowed it down to these 5 options. All the swords listed are made of carbon steel, which is pretty close to the real thing, so I would really treat them as all having the same quality.
P.S. If you're interested, the website I buy my replica swords from is called
brothersmith-swords.com
P.P.S. If these types aren't familiar to you, try to do some research.
P.P.P.S. This one's here just to annoy you :8:

You are welcomed to post why you chose that, or questions about the swords.

Hi,
He seems to have a few labled as viking battle swords - which one were you thinking of?
I like these two types on his site. :)

I have a few Dectrative and Real Katanas. That's about the only type of swords I really like. I would love to have a Zweihander though.

I like those ones, but I still have a price range (the rapier's too expensive) and I only go for carbon steel swords (that Trojan is stainless) now. There's a lot of choices in this hobby (just like snake-keeping).

I'm pretty flexible with my sword preferences, as you can see with those choices. The only swords I don't like are rapiers and crucifix style (waaay too common) and ones made of stainless steel, but I'll take anything else really.
I like Zweinhanders too and I was going to get one from them but it went up
$20 so now it's $90:(.

Re: What to get next...
I would go with a true folded steal full tang Katana. find one pre WWII. :D

That Shiryasa Katana up there is heat-tempered carbon steel :sweeet:, if that's what you mean. And I'm not sure I could afford something pre-WWII:P. Replicas are usually more affordable, so that's why I go for them instead of historical artifacts, but I always try to get ones made of carbon steel which makes them almost as authentic.
BTW, if anyone actually finds a cinquedea for under $30, let me know.

Re: What to get next...
The low-down on each sword:
Nodachi-37", classic samurai style sword, $21.95, 24 in stock
Shiryasa Katana-37", heat tempered, $19.95, only 2 in stock
U.S. Naval Cutlass-30"+, very authentic, only 3 in stock
Cobra Schimitar-32", nice details and look, 18 in stock
Viking Battle Sword-37", my type all-in-one, 16 in stock
Each one is made of carbon steel, the most authentic sword-metal there is.

Re: What to get next...
I also collect swords and have 37 made of functional high carbon steel.
If your looking for cheap and want something you can actualy jump into battle with get one from Paul Chen. I have 9 of his swords and you can cut down trees with them.
I have 7 swords from Cold Steel which seem to hold an edge better then any.
Here is some good reading

Re: What to get next...
I think you should get one that's not a replica.....or none :D
Granted, my boyfriend collects guns :O and I'm not for that either. But he said "if you get your snakes, then I get my guns" *sigh* I had to compromise. However, he just traded a small shot gun for a gun I was actually excited about. It's a 1943 Russian Rife used in WWII and being's that I love history I was the one telling him to buy it. :P So maybe I could warm up to the idea of collecting swords :weirdface

Paul Chen is among the best sword-manufacturers in the world, and his products aren't that cheap. I won't get anything above $50 (and that includes shipping). If you found something in my price range, then I'll look into it.
Isis: Come on, what do you have against them anyway?:P I'm not specifically looking for anything sharp, and replica firearms are usually above $50 and anything lower is never worth the money. Besides, the house would be well protected, :D and plus if I'm just mounting these things my future wife probably wouldn't mind (as long as she doesn't mind replicas AND 2 snakes), and if she does, I can sell them (the replicas, not the snakes) and make a few bucks.

Re: What to get next...
By the way, has anyone here bought from brothersmith-swords.com ? I've actually asked Paul Chen himself but I also want to know what you think of them.
And make sure to read the low-down before you vote!

How much yer' offering?:D
P.S. It might look like I voted, but that's just so I don't have to click on the "View Poll Results" link every time I want to see the stats. That vote doesn't count.

Re: What to get next...
The Naval Cutlass is has a blade made of 5160 high carbon steel . Does this mean that it's better than the other options?

Ehem. If there's 96 active users right now, I'm sure one of them can answer the quoted question.

Hi,
Did we get changed from a snake forum to a metallurgy forum while I was asleep? :weirdface
May I suggest a swift google instead? - or you could email the maker and ask his opinion maybe?
I think the answer will also depend on what you expect the metal to be able to withstand during the lifetime of the sword - are you going to be fighting with full force blade to blade contact or will it spend eternity sitting on a stand for example?

I did a google sweep as suggested-2160 CBS is the best stuff BUT only if forged correctly. I asked Larry Smith about that and he did answer pretty fast. Apparently, it wasn't forged by a famous company. Chances are it came from a mass-producing factory in India. I guess that would make it like all the rest then.
P.S. You mods get thanked way too easily!;)
