Well, we don't own a house for a reason.

Rent, less than 1000 a month with heat completely free.

Well, you can pay a mortgage, and eventually own a house. Or you can pay rent, which may cost less, but you never have anything to show for it. At least with paying a mortgage you will have a chance to get some of the money back if you decide to sell.

    Yours too, huh?

I lived home all through college - it was great just getting to save up money.

He told me I had to pay rent there or get my own place and pay rent... I figured as long as I was paying the money might as well have my own place... and I could get a Ball Python to boot.

Buying a home was the best financial decision I've ever made. I am building equity, getting tax deductions, and improving my credit score.

I used to rent apartments. It was TORTURE hiding 40 reptiles from management. Now I have an entire floor

Don't get me started on taxes. I live in Virginia, the tax capitol of the country. We get taxed on everything here. They even tax our cars twice a year as personal property...that's in addtion to the cost of the tags and vehicle inspection.

I rent a townhouse, and boy does it suck. Maintenance is lousy, the place sucks in general, all my animals but two are technically going against the pet policy, and in the end, I will have spent all this money, just to move out of here next year. I pay a little under 9,000 a year to live here, and that does not include utilities. Together, my husband and I make about 25-26k per year, after taxes. If only we could afford a house.

Cory. I'm pretty sure you're not gonna get an answer or the posters have moved on from the issue as this thread is 5 years old.
