Anyone else think we could use a few new stickies?

Since joining the site I have noticed a few different thread topics that seem to pop up every few days. I thought maybe it would be helpful to collaborate on a few new stickies to cut down on the same threads being posted over and over.

I'm not critisizing anyone, so please don't take offense. I'm sure I posted a few repeat threads myself. I'm not getting down on people who've done it. The goal of this is to save new members time from posting repeats, and veteran members time from replying with the same answers. Again, please don't take offense if a thread you've posted is mentioned here. We've all done it.

Here are a few that crossed my mind:

Help, my BP won't eat; Tips for picky eaters; How much/what size do I feed?
How do I regulate my humidity? I've seen quite a few of those lately
Substrate FAQ; Pros and cons of various substrates

There were a few more I had been thinking of, but now that I try to post I'm drawing a blank. Add what you think might be helpful in a sticky.

Wow. I think that is a great idea. Could this be done by digging through the archives or would people have to write new ones and have a vote/pole to see if the members think it is a good/helpful one.

I think a lot of people overlook the caresheet link. If the stickies were in the main part of the general or husbandry forums they would be more likely to be seen and utilized. The threads keep getting posted, so obviously people are missing the caresheet information.

They are. All the stickies are at the top of every forum. the care sheet is at the top of the BP husbandry forum. It all depends on how you access and display the forums.

Sorry just had another thought. Like I said before most of the answers to questions asked over and over can be found, if you look hard enough. But I kind of think of it like this. When you have a problem with something you have purchased and you call customer service it kind of stinks when you get a recording and an automated service to answer your questions. If I just wanted a generic answer then I wouldn't come to a online community for the answer. Sure we may be saying the same thing over and over. But you never know when something new might be introduced to the topic. Just My :2cent:

If you read a little closer, I was not asking a question of how. I was putting forth the discussion of why in order to spark new knowledge. If there were basic stickies, there would more time for thought provoking discussion.

Not only that but we are here to help. Offering advice and give new comers a personal experienced voice and solution to a problem is what makes us different from other online communities

I realize that. I should have been more specific. I meant the NEW stickies would be added with the existing ones.

Anyway, looks like it won't happen without moderater support. I just figured a little redundancy wouldn't hurt. I'm didn't mean it as a means of taking away the personal experience.

But is it safe to say there's always room for a new sticky if a thread seems worthy? No one has even given anymore ideas of possible stickies that SHOULD be up there. My ideas might be wrong in your opinion but there has to be some other stuff that deserves to be there.

It may be something that we look in to. We not opposed to stream lining the info seeking process for users at all.

The only reason that we haven't done something like this is because the issues that get brought up over and over can very so much that a simple issue of not eating could be something as simple as no hides or as complex as Internal parasites or RI. The solution can then only be found after certain variables are filled in.

Its quicker and easier for both those seeking and those giving the info to narrow down the cause of problems.

One other thing I was thinking of was to write up a little something in java or maybe even html to help members diagnose problems. They could enter husbandry information, symptoms, etc. and the app would suggest some of the main areas they should be looking at. Nothing too specific, just a way to narrow things down a little so when they post a thread for personalized help they'll have a little better idea where to start. Fill in the variables a little bit before hand. Even a standardized form to fill out when asking about health issues so everyone knows right off the bat what the OP is working with and won't have to ask.

I say the more stickies the better. Sure one can use the search function for posts, but I allways get so many that do not apply to the answer I am seeking.

While you can find the answer to those problems in many of the stikies already present on this forum you need to keep in mind that some people would rather get 101 attention.

While we might answer the same questions over and over again (I know I have) we need to keep in mind that for the person asking the question this is the first time they ask and the first time they get an answer to THEIR question.

After all isn’t it what forums are all about?

True. This forum is also filled with nice people IMO, who are willing help regardless if the info is elsewhere or not. Many will even find links and post to further help out a person. :community

well i think it should be that people can ask because not everyone can learn by just reading a care sheet if you have ever read them then you will notice its the same as getting responses. people respond in different ways and that makes it better understood for some. when you have or see multiple caresheets and usually as i read several before getting my first snake they are all different in alot of ways so some care sheets does make it difficult for a new one to the hobby to understand. so regardless of it being a sticky i dont think it would hurt anyone to answer questions for people if you're online and have nothing to do or just reading the new post as i do lol because i myself and i am sure alot of people would rather talk to someone hands on in case i/them have multiple questions instead of reading a care sheet that i do not understand if it has some more expereinced terms in it.

and i'm sure my post made no sense to a few of you because i couldnt find the exact words i was looking for lol.
