Are my royals gay
A strange thing has happened, i have had one of my royals for 21 years i got him from a good breeder, today i put him in with another male while i cleaned him out and the other male was straight over to him trying to mate with him, out of curiosity i left them together to see what happened, when i checked on them an hour ago they were locked together i lifted their tails gently and they were definatly locked, has anyone heard of this before.

Re: Are my royals gay
If it is a male can this harm him, i would have thought he would have tried to fight the other one off but he (she) does'nt seem bothered by it at all.

Re: Are my royals gay
Gay love happens in most animal species. I would say not a big deal. but i am neither snake nor gay, so who am i to say.

Re: Are my royals gay
A male BP trying to mate another one happens……..it resumes to this DOMINANCE
You other option is that one of them was not sexed properly.

Re: Are my royals gay
Soon as i can im getting him probed, after 21 years of thinking he was a boy it might be a girl.
-
Re: Are my royals gay
Well you might be expecting here if that's the case

Re: Are my royals gay
i do hope one turns out to be a female lol but even though it has known to happen i would still think one would try to fight the other off.

Sorry... have to say something... gay is a social identity, and the behaviour is homosexual... and since snakes do not have a social identity, they cannot be gay. :)
Same with gender, gender is a socail construct, snakes have sexes not genders (pet peeve of mine).
Ok... yeah, your snake isn't gay.

Wasn't offensive in the least. I did not read it as a derogatory thing... no worries Barbara.

sounds like jurassic park chaos theory, were the eggs they were hatched out of introduced to frog DNA? if so you could have a problem prehistoric snakes were huge so when your males have there eggs candle em and look for legs were the little claws oughta be, if they got legs call speilberg he,ll know what to do:gj:

I'm glad someone explained this. I had what I thought was a female (silly me that I believed a reptile store...uggghhh), and I had put my YB male in with her (him) a week ago. It looked like they bred. So, I repeated it again last night. Oh my! I'd never seen BPs wrestle before. She/he was really upset. So I had to separate them. The YB is now in with one of my probed female BPs and they are locked. And now I have a Normal adult male that I have no clue what to do with (breeding-wise)...ahhhh...

Re: Are my royals gay
:rofl: This just cracks me up lol....
How was it confirmed to be a male originally? Or was it just word of mouth that they both were males? It'd definitely not unheard of to have snakes missexed even large breeders sometimes make mistakes while popping and mistake a male for a female (though it is harder to mistake a female for a male by popping).
At any rate it might not be a bad idea to find yourself a hovabator and have it ready just in case!

Re: Are my royals gay
OH and also if your snakes start drinking appletinis and spending more time in front of their mirrors primping (how would they primp with no hands..... must explore further....) then you got yourself either a couple of extremely confident straight guys or some super dooper fabulous guys :rolleye2::gj:
