I think my burmese just died in its hands
Okay. It has had mites for about a week(I tried the water bath thing as I asked for help here once). Then fed it since it had not eaten for a looong time, and that was my first priority. So today... just a while ago, I took it out to spray it with that reptile mite killer from most petstores. I saw that it was in blue... I took it out sprayed it, sprayed the enclosure, it was active. I put it in a delicup with the mite stuff for a minute or less while I sprayed the enclosure. It shot right out when I took the lid of, I grabbed it to rub him so mights could dissingegrate. Well... It pooped/musked on me and exhaled really loudly and just wen absolutely limp. I was like W.T.F. It was very active moments earlier and suddelny it just went limp. I thought it was playindead, but I couldn't see it breathing. :(! I flipped it to see if it righted tiself and it did barely. I picked it up but it was limp still. So I put it back in its enclosure and it didnt move. I opened its mouth and it didn't even bother to move away, it just let itself. It was still twitching for a while... rather reacting to touches by me, but now it seems to have died.
So um, do burms play dead this good? Or is it really gone?
I am verry verry mad/sad right now....

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
Hi, :(
No I haven't heard of burms playing dead I'm afraid.
What mite stuff were you using?

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
How sad...
Looks like its on its last breaths if not already dead.
Ditto what Derek asked.
What were you using?
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
did this snake also regurge recently? I thought I remembered something about that.
Sorry man....that really sucks.
I'd hesitate to blame the mite stuff right off the bat since you've had problems with this animal since you got him (unless I am confused)
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
Does the mite spray specify that it's safe to spray directly on the snake? And am I reading right that you bathed it in the spray in a deli cup?
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
If it was IN the deli cup with the mite stuff - it may very well have been poisoned by the fumes, sadly. That's why we're always strongly recommending that people follow directions on any mite treatment to the letter!
I'm sorry for your loss! One reason why I keep Provent A Mite on hand at all times - it's been tested safe for snakes, and you treat the enclosure and not the snake.

By placing it in the deli cup with the "mite stuff", do you mean you closed it in the cup to inhale, ingest whatever mite spray you were using?
I'm very sorry for your loss. :(
Edit: You people are fast posters :D

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
Im not trying to be rude here, but...
....WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING?!?!?!
This is entirely your fault. You claim to have asked advice here about the mites, and i PROMISE you, no one said to leave it in a damn deli cup with mite proventative.
I cannot even begin to describe how assinine your actions were, to get rid of those mites.
I cannot even be sympathetic, or sorry for you, not one bit.
You seemed like a smarter person than that in your previous posts, im quite shocked actually
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
oh man, I misread about the deli cup....
that could be it :(
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
Mite sprays can be VERY VERY toxic. It is best to read the label many times and ask people about it before using it, just to errr on the side of caution for this type of thing not to happen. I have to agree with Pat on this one... WTH were you thinking? Poor poor snake.
Also if you have any other snakes FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT AND I REPEAT DO NOT touch those snakes with that mite killer till you tell us just what kind/brand it is and if you have sprayed there enclosures/them with it then I'd be on my way with them to a er herp vet!

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
It said spray Directly on the snake.
Its the cheap one from pet stores.
Reptile relief
The snake revived. It is in its hide sleeping, I picked it up agian and it is flicking its tounge NOT limp.
Also -No it was not the one that regurged in the past. Only wrong things ever posted about this guy is not accepting frozen and the mites.

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
I really hope that he'll be ok and not suffer from being made to inhale the fumes.
I will tell you - the Reptile Relief is only a temporary fix, and you most likely will have more mites in about 30 days. Please order a can of Provent A Mite and ONLY spray the enclosure and allow to completely dry.
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
ouch =/...sorry bout that...you can see the mites crawling all over it in the last pic :(

Make sure when you spray the enclosure with what Rabernet suggested you do NOT have the snake or it's water dish in the enclosure at the time you spray (just to clarify that point). Always read directions VERY carefully on these products and if in doubt, come here and ask for clarification from experienced users of that product first.

Yes. This was meant to be a meanwhile treatment

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
I'm glad to see he lived. After seeing how lifeless he was in the pics I am shocked to see he pulled through. Make sure he has plenty of ventilation after what he went through it was like being in a gas chamber.
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
Love albino burms, would love to see more pics of him out in the sun! Glad to hear he pulled through!
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
I am very happy to here that. Yeah man when I got my boa she had some mites I just treated the enclosure with P.A.M and then got some tweezers and picked off the visible mites on her. Just a suggestion if I am not mistaken you have it bad, you can see the mites in your pics. Well good luck with that.

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
I'd love to see a picture of this miracle snake....
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe from the snake in the pics that it revived itself and it's now alive.

Am I the only one who finds that exchange morbidly comical?
Sorry.
Anyway, I'm sorry about what's happened with all this. Like everyone is saying, I'd suggest switching to P.a.M. and not repeating the occurance (obviously). I hope you can get rid of the mites soon. That's really astounding that it came to. Maybe you should change its name to "Miracle".
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
You should def get into a vet ASAP to make sure there are no lasting consequences!

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
Did the instructions on the bottle say that it is okay to soak the snake in it? I imagine from the way you described him coming out that the container was closed as well.

I was thinking the same thing...
I can buy maybe coming out unconscious and then coming to... But coming out kicking, then gasping and going limp, then coming to again is kind of hard to buy. I'm sorry if I'm mistaken but I am sure you could understand. It's just that those pics sure looks like a dead snake to me.
Regardless...Lesson learned the hard way.

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
Evidence for The Resurrection is needed.:confuzd:
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
So the snake was dead for about an hour then just came back to life?
Sorry but I find that hard to believe. Pictures may stat otherwise if that is infact true. Also if the snake is alive again please get it to a vet asap!
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
See if it can slither on top of water?
( hides)
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
Video would also be good for your reputation. I find it hard to believe that it came bak to life all of the sudden. But a video with you saying he has recovered from his weird "fake death" would be good for your rep.
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
Does that burm look a little deformed or "froggish" to anyone else in the first place? Look, its alright if you made a mistake, you did not know or misread directions, but I think telling us that he came back alive is very unbelievable at this point. Id just admit what really has happened and do not repeat what you did wrong later.

Man I am sorry for your loss. I know it must be hard.
But what the heck were you thinking would you spay a chemical on your body then crawl into a closed container. This needs to be a lesson to a lot of people. As my mom would say use your head for something other than a hat rack.
I hope that this snake truly did come back around and your not just trying to duck and run.

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
anyone see this?

I really hope the snake IS ok. So sad :tears:

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
Interesting, according to the other forum, he announced it was alive again at 4:14 pm, but posted this thread here after that.

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
dawn dish soap works for killing mites also rub the snake down with it and let it sit a few min's the wash it off kills them all
-
Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
My idea is the animal went unconscious from being in a closed container with reptile relief. I don't think it's completely the truth to say the animal DIED, then came back to life suddenly.
I think that perhaps the animal went unconscious, or had some other problem (motor skills, seizure etc...)
Now that you have a job, take the animal to the vet!

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
for reals.... take that snake to a vet. get it fixed up asap... dont make it suffer because of your stupidity ..

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
I would really like to know if the burmese is OK and see a recent pic.

Re: I think my burmese just died in its hands
LAME! I feel sorry for that animal.

Like has been said like 20 times I think the priority here will be a Vet visit... They should be able to give you the best advice, but be sure you inform the Vet of this incident.
