    My Rat rack
Well I had some extra time and motivation and got my rat rack all finished up. Well almost, I'm still going to install a watering system because i absolutely loath water bottles. The lixit brand is horrible, they should be called dripsit. Anyways, heres my rack, with a picture of a little hanging hopper i made for the younglings. Plus a pic of an uber pregger mouse and a pick of my male ASF who is working on getting old enough to make the ladies mommas.

Great idea for the drop down!! :gj: I imagine if you put it towards the front enough, you can still get the tub down and out?

Well your correct on the fact that being near the front i can pull the tub almost fully out, but i cant totally remove the tub. I decided this is fine with me though as I just move the mice to another tub and suck all the used substrate out with my shopvac. Then just give it a good cleaning with some clorohexidine, let dry, and then refill.

Keep an eye on the little buggers ... I've seen plenty of female mice push their pinkies right through 1/2 screen ... I've had to pull racks apart and re-screen with 1/4 for mice before ... not fun. Hopefully you won't have the same problem that I did, but I thought I'd give a heads up just in case.

    Nice looking rack!

I wonder if there was a way you could rig some sort of removable feeding apparatus? Something that you could pop out to fully remove the tub? Just thinking out loud...

Good advice, I see what you mean by the size. A little pink would surely fit through the openings. I will keep an eye out for pinks on the roof, until then i guess i gotta just keep my fingers crossed.

Technically i could do that, i would just have to bend back the wire a bit, but i honestly dont have a problem with the way it is set up now. In fact I just cleaned the mouse tub and I was quite satisfied. I will let you know if it becomes a problem though.

Nice rack however hopper mice will be able to squeeze through the hardware cloth and escape (I learned the hard way ;))

Well I guess im going to have to deal with it for now. When they get big enough i'll just feed them to my babies. I am getting some trios of rats soon so the babies will be bigger and wont be able to fit through. I guess i will have to retrofit a few of the rack slots with smaller cloth.

Well I decided I didn't want to deal with the half inch mesh problem. I went to home depot instead and bought a bunch of supplies to build a new rack.:D:D

This rack becomes the rat rack and the new rack gets the mice and ASF's:sweeet:

Good plan! The racks look good. We don't do mice or ASF's at all for our ball pythons. A new born rat pup is a good size for a baby snakes first meal. Also we keep them on rats then we don't have to worry about them getting particular later when a Large mouse or ASF is not large enough for a good meal.

Now I have to get to work and build some additional racks for our growing rat population. 18 cement tubs and 6 of the large rodent bins from Big Apple just are not enough any longer. Going to probably build at least 18 more tubs worth for now.

Nice rack! :gj: I have a question... this is the second or third time I've seen ASF's in tubs... aren't they horrible chewers? I've thought about getting some, but my friends that have them keep them in tanks... I'm just curious if ( Or hoping that :)) they will stay put in the concrete tubs!

    Again, great rack!
