FedEx does it again
Last night I shipped out the paradox and had a snake shipped to me. Both were priority, next day by 10:30 delivery. It's now noon here in Chicago, and 1:00 pm in Miami, and both snakes are still on the trucks. I called and they said both were do to "extreme weather". Here in the Chicago burbs it started drizzling at around 8:30, and has been drizzling on and off since. Not too extreme in my book. And in Miami right now, weather.com says it's partly cloudy. I know this isn't a new rant, but what the hell!? I hope that paradox gets delivered before the temps get above 87 there. I couldn't sleep last night, and I won't be able to relax until I know she arrived safe.

Re: FedEx does it again
That sucks! Don't they have to fly at some point for that delivery? I know that hurricane aftermath has had it raining non-stop with strong gusts of wind here in AR and surrounding states for the past 3 days. That might have something to do with it. Just bad luck I guess.

Re: FedEx does it again
Sorry man, Fedex and you just dont get along, this is the second time inside of like 30 days right.
-
Re: FedEx does it again
Sorry to hear that Jake :tears: I hope she makes it to her destination in good condition ;)
I get frustrated with FedEx all the time with work related materials being late - I'd be flipping out if it was a live animal :rage:

I know there is crazy weather around Louisianna and Mississippi, but it made it to Miami fine, and was on the delivery truck early this morning. No problems there, just a slow driver, I guess.

Nope, must be thinking of someone else.

Re: FedEx does it again
They're also probably trying to catch up from the past gov holiday which I'm sure a lot of people took vacation for. Still no excuse for an overnight delivery that costs an arm and a leg which involves a live animal.
-
Re: FedEx does it again
Thats exactly why I try to have shippers hold my package at the FedEx distribution center, then I can just go pick up the snakes right when the center opens at 9 am and I don't have to worry about the delivery trucks. In AZ it just gets too hot to not do it that way.

Re: FedEx does it again
Man, now you got me sketchin about my fedex delivery today!!!!!

Re: FedEx does it again
My new snake just got here, 2 1/2 hours late, and it hasn't even been drizzling for an hour. I'm in a garden apartment in my condo, and I beat the driver to the front door. He was the slowest walker (and probably driver) I've ever seen. His eyes were hella blood shot. Either he was really sick, or really stoned. On top of that, he had the release to leave it at the door, no signature required, and when I let him in (I had to hold the door for him while he mossied on up) he wouldn't give me my package until I went and got an ID. Even the Fedex site says he left it at the door, no sig required. The paradox is nor over 3 1/2 hours late and is still on the truck. Being in Miami, I wonder what kind of drugs that driver's taking.

Re: FedEx does it again
well on FedEx's website is specifically says to expect delays in the gulf coast region... frustrating, i'm sure. hope all goes well with the animal!
-
Re: FedEx does it again
Dang I hope that paradox makes it ok. I would hunt someone down if something happened to a snake like that while it was being shipped. You'd think for the amount that they charge us to send live animals they'd take a little more care with them.
-
Re: FedEx does it again
What is going on here Jake????
I am sooo out of the loop, I just found the thread like yesterday where you hatched out the paradox....and now its already gone???? :O
Hope the girl gets to her destination safely though

I know, but once it makes it to the delivery truck on time, it shouldn't be that delayed. Like I said, It's not even raining in Miami. The storm they are talking about on the website is hitting Louisianna and Mississippi today. Even mine was 2 1/2 hours late due to extreme weather, which consisted of clouds and a little light rain.

You and me both. I called and asked what the hell was up with that truck, and all he would say was that there's extreme weather (partly cloudy) and that he guaranteed it would be delivered today. Gee, thanks Fedex.

Sorry, I thought I told everyone I had ever talked to when she hatched out :D You were pretty late with this one, Susan. T's half way around the world, and he called me 2 hours after I first posted her picture up. Where you been? I missed you in Daytona, too. Everyone was giving me crazy looks when I asked them, "what that smell like?".
-
Re: FedEx does it again
I just called again, over 4 hours past the guaranteed arrival time, and she said it was due to extreme weather situations. I repeated what I've said here, that it's been on a truck all day in a city where it's not even raining. She asked if it was a medical emergency, and I said there would be one if my expensive snake didn't get delivered alive and with the quickness (me having a heart attack, not committing a violent act). I'm expecting a call back once they talk to the driver. I know Florida is the sunshine state, but partly cloudy shouldn't be considered a weather emergency. And it's now 89 there. :O

Re: FedEx does it again
yeah, i agree with ya. i'm sure they will use that excuse to their fullest advantage for though!

Re: FedEx does it again
Hey Jake, not to be ugly or anything, but "extreme weather" means a heck of a lot more than just rain and such.....like flooding. Miami is very low and they took a butt load of water in the last three weeks, and are about to get somemore. Yeah FedEx stinks at times, but you have to think about more than just the forcast after a couple of hurricanes have gone through an area. I am in NW FL and I refuse to send or receive any shipments this week because of expected delays, weither it is because the planes might have to contend with the remenants of Gustav or the fact the roads are just messed up having to contend with refugees running from the hurricane and now returning home, or flooded roads, etc. I hope your girl gets there safe and sound, but it is just not the best week to send anything to FL. Unfortunately, with Hannah, Ike, and Josephine, might not be good the next several weeks. Just a heads up for anybody considering shipping through FL., call before and ask if there are delays in the area you are shipping to.

Thanks for the input. I understand that, and I looked into it before I shipped. The things you mentioned are what worried me more than anything. It shouldn't postpone delivery to almost 5 hours late and counting. And what about the extreme wheather in Chicago. My snake was 2 hours+ late today, and there is barely mild drizzling today, but that's about it. Fedex has no problem taking your money and making guarantees within 18 hours of delivery time, but then there's a storm 2 states away and they give every driver out there a free pass to milk a shift. I've been in the labor/moving business, so I know how it works. Any excuse to get high and take a 3 hour lunch or a nap in a forest preserve. I haven't received my call back yet. Maybe it's because they can't get a hold of the driver...
On the possitive side, it's now officially cloudy in Miami, and the temp dropped back down to 86, so hopefully she won'y over heat.

Re: FedEx does it again
Yeah I am sorry, and really wasn't trying to sound ugly. I lost 5 animals in Jan that I shipped up to MI due to "extreme weather". The only problem with that was that I caught the delay very quickly (like that night actually) and the first person I talked to said it had been missorted at the Memphis hub. The next day they tried to use the extreme weather card, and I blew their lie out of the water, because I had complete documentation. My baby's arrived to the buyer 24 hours late and frozen solid (even with a heat pack). All I got out of it was my shipping back. Lost the sale and the animals...so yeah, I understand. On the flip side, I live in FL, and I could not even get my rodent order in this week because of all the delays....:disbelief I am getting some very ugly looks from a few of my slithery friends now....

Re: FedEx does it again
hey now, easy on the "miami drugged drivers" lol.. your talking about my home there dude.. j/k i sure hope the delivery has made it there by now!!! I would be totally stressed out too. How long is T in Fl? Hopefully there wont be much more of a delay if it hasnt made it to T, I know all of S. Fl is really stressing about the storms off our coast. Were especially stressing about Ike, that one is BIG and looking like its coming right for us in Broward.
:please: Im praying our snakes dont lay until after the storms pass!

It' still not there, 5 1/2 hours later than I was guaranteed. I've been calling and complaining and asking to have the driver make a bee line to my desination every hour, but I'm not getting anywhere with Fedex. T isn't in Miami, I'm shipping to his exporter there, so it can make it in with a shipment to T in Bangkok later this month. And if Fedex has been, and still is having a difficult time making deliveries, don't make guarantees and charge for priority overnight. Either they can get it there on time, or they're having problems that prevent that. They seem to like having the best of both worlds, without any consequence.

Re: FedEx does it again
Sorry to hear about that... It does stink that you have to wait and keep worrying but we do have some nasty spotty weather in Fl all summer long. So while www.weather.com might say we are partly cloudy its rarely accurate. Im listening to the news right now and we beginning to get the outer bands of T.S. Hanna... I sure do hope it makes it to T's exporter safe... the good news is at least the weather isnt *too* hot, usually were in upper 90's this time of the year.
Here is our weather right now
Cloudy
85°F
Feels Like
88°F

Re: FedEx does it again
Thanks, everyone. Hogs, no offense taken at all. Adee, I saw that the high wasn't going to go past 88 there for a couple of days, so I wasn't too worried, as long as the package was close to being on time :rolleye2:
I just got a call from the exporter, and she arrived safe and sound. He also said she has crazy cool eyes. He said she has one blue pupil and one red pupil. He must have a lot better lighting than I have, because I was steering at her eyes constantly and I never noticed a red pupil. I'm just relieved that she is safe and I can finally relax.

Re: FedEx does it again
That's good to hear everything made it safe Jake!
-
Re: FedEx does it again
glad to hear it! you had me all worried about my shipment today too... haha
-
Re: FedEx does it again
Glad she made it safe!! I would be on the phone with FedEx and see if you can not get a partial refund on the shipping!
-
Re: FedEx does it again
You sold her!? :O
Man, I don't know how you could let that one go!
-
Re: FedEx does it again
Glad to hear that she got there ok. I know I didn't have anything invested in this transaction, but even I was starting to get nervous for you and a little peeved at Fedex... I guess it's just my appreciation for such an amazing animal...
-
Re: FedEx does it again
PHEW!!! So glad she made it to the exporter safe and sound! Thankfully you can relax and take it easy now, the whole ordeal is finally out of your hands, lets hope T can get her now safely!!!

I will try. I shipped through Reptster. Does anyone know how a refund would work in that case?

It was hard, but I had paid for Daytona back in April before I got laid off, then our A/C broke and needs to be replaced for $4k, etc, etc.

Re: FedEx does it again
I'm pretty certain that according to the terms of the live animal shippers contract with FedEx, there are no refunds for late/delayed deliveries ... same way that they won't honor any insurance claims that you make against a lost or dead animal. If you read it carefull, you basically waive your right to on time delivery when you agree to the contract.
Not sure how things would work going through Repster though, so maybe you have a shot?

Thanks Adam. I know there is no insurance when shipping an animal, but I thought that regular policies apply as far as the package getting there on time, no matter what was shipped. I don't know, I didn't make it through the whole contract, since I already know they aren't responsible for an animal's death if you ship through them. I'm not too concerned about a refund. If it's there policy I'll take it, but I'm just so relieved she was recieved alive and well.
On another note, what do you guys make of the one red eye? That news just blew my mind. I'm assuming it's somewhat like an ivory's eye, but where did it come from, and what does it mean?
